I don't think you'd be happy at US Xpress. My step dad drove for them for a short while.

He wanted OTR, but never left a 4 state region.

To get on with a carrier, and being told I would run 48 states or close to 48 states, then only seeing what I've seen before would not sit well with me. A small part of my motivation for getting into this industry is to travel, evaluate some areas with an eye toward retirement, buy some property, get it ready for when I decide "porch-sittin", beer-drinkin' and fishing takes priority over working.

Porch sittin', beer-drinking and fishin' agin the law out west? How about Maine, I love it up there? Vermont? Upstate NY? NH?

KY and AR are beautiful, but for some reason I don't see myself retiring in the South and part of my motivation for driving is to find a place to retire.

All those NE states would probably clash with your southern raisin' and be purdy dang high in taxes.

I recommend SD, ND, or MT. I'd recommend Wyoming if Brickman weren't from there.

I was raised in the south but I have old, old family ties in Upstate NY. My fraternal grandmother and my dad were raised up there. I lived in Rochester, NY for about 4.5 years....enjoyed it!

Thanks for the heads-up about Brickman, though!:biggrin_25525:

Sure, it's OK out here...but you have to really like the "brook trout" fishin...of course there is salmon certain times of year..like deer hunting it's seasonal on certain rivers, and there is some bass spots...but mostly trout...oh yes and the occasional Northern Pike...good fighter that Pike...but watch those teeth!

Say, I was thinking the other day driving by Upper Klamath Lake...what happens to the mud hens (coots) in the winter...they don't fly anywhere...do they burrow out a mud cave in the bank or what?

    To my fellow newbie:

Ok first I heard someone say Werner, from what I'm hearing there giving people 2 options Regional which wouldn't be the 48 you wanted or you can go OTR TEAM.

Second I heard US Express, again from what I've heard there trying to go 100% team just to give you an idea as to how they roll watch this vid:

    Part 1:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xYfWW6kGBY

    Part 2:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-CglhtWmJQ

thats all I gotta say about that lol

and Third Millis Transfer first off let me say they were #1 on my list UNTIL i called a recruiter, They don't hire new drivers! they require 1 year OTR experience UNLESS you want to go to there school $2500 3 weeks long. They also run primarily East of the Mississippi River not the 48 you wanted. But other then that they seem like a great company!

Now I've seen you poking around the KLLM threads and again they were #1 on my list UNTIL lol I found out they don't allow inverters except for the little cig lighter ones and Having a Fridge and Microwave as well a other stuff is pretty important to me because I'm pretty much gonna be living out of my truck for months at a time I'd rather be trucking then at my apt lol but other then that little problem seems like a great company to me.

So the Company at the top of my list now Is Watkins Shepard theres 2 great threads on here about them and they seem great! some apu's they allow inverters and the recruiters were actually nice and helpful unlike allot the of the companies I've talked to. But from reading your post it seems like you want allot of training and Watkins Shepard doesn't send you out with a trainer its just a 10 day orientation then you on your own, but they do have a school as well.

and last but not least you mentioned Vermont I lived there from 2001-2008, if you like to Hunt and Fish you'll be happy but once the snow's off the ground its pretty boring at least for a 20yr old lol and the cost of living is really high up there which is why i moved south.

anyway good luck fellow newbie I hope you find a company that fits you!
