Hi all need some help, my horton fan only seems to kick in after the temp gauge goes into the red section (kenworth with a M11).
Also does anyone know why this would be happening?
And is it possible to have cummins adjust it so it kicks in at a temp that is in the green section?
I did buy a new fan sensor, could cummins have sold me the wrong one?
temp that horton fan should kick in ?

Cummins are around 207 F to 210 F depending on what year you have. This is not adjustable. What is the temperature range of your green zone in your gauge?
-
approx 176f to 212f, (80c to 100c) -
Ok, first we need to know if your truck is getting the same signal for the coolant temp as the ecm or does the gauge have it's own separate sensor. Then you need to check what the ecm is actually reading for coolant temp and again compare with the gauge. You may need an infra red thermometer to check true engine temp. Even though the gauge says 230, the engine may only be at 205. Cummins recommends coolant no hotter than 212 F for a M11. The CEL will come on and set a code and derate your engine at 219 F.

I checked the fan sensor wires and found they appeared in good order so moved onto inspecting the connector to the fan sensor and that appeared ok, the good news is that since disconnecting and reconnecting the fan sensor plug/connector the fan is now kicking in at around 95c YIPPY. Im guessing there was a bit of dirt / ##### on the pins or connector.
