Wife has that high def blah blah whatever, man hers looks nice. never seen a game in its life.

One thing that could be a BIG drag on a system is the speed of the RAM. Most store PCs come with 533mghz RAM. When swapped with some 800mghz you can see a huge difference.

Hey, I finally found something to replace my 'informer- yahoo widget' ...$##^#%&%# had a great gadget designed for vista sidebar- uses hw monitor and show temps like i wanted. then used a circle doc gadget i found elsewhere and keeps my desktop clean, left speed fan running silently in the background so the temp. warning can go off if it gets to hot (like if its doing stuff and i throw it down on the couch covering the air vent)....then found an email checker to get my email automatically off yahoo's site (since yahoo decided to charge for accounts with pop forwarding).....i'm glad to have all their crap off my setup. Thanks for the motivation.

I'm now running Vista 32-bit on my laptop, exclusively. I do now have 2GB of RAM, but that's only because some RAM I ordered for another laptop I was working on was the wrong speed and not supported by the motherboard--not because I was having any performance issues.

well, now i got a vista problem....figured i'd give a heads up to the computer literate....aparently its ocuring more and more.....an is a mean one....it's on my wifes laptop, tried to boot from cd also, - no go.
-whatever it is that goes wrong they only have a hotfix for and what good is that if you cant get into the system to install it?
-windows wont load....it checks for something and wont load when this is messed up, same with the reinstall cd
-linux might be a fix (see link)
-have bought a hard drive to usb adapter to see if i can reformat her hard drive from my computer, whatever the problem is gets in my cmputer and causes restart....still playn', put hotfix in mine and will try that in a bit.
-dell is havn' me run test (i dont think they have a clue as this seems to be a new deal, noted by only a hotfix from microsoft and no actual update) maybe ill get a free hard drive and fix this one....
-anyway wanted to put out a warning for u computer literate people....u'll know cause u wont get past the 'blue screen of death'

    here's 2 links;
    http://bsods.com/content/windows-vista-and-stop-0x0000c1f5-linux-anyone
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946084

gonna try the linux method after i let dell screw it up and send me a new free hardrive to see if i can fix that way also.
-seems microsoft hasn't admitted fault yet, but as seen by the guy that found a workaround its a microsoft deal, which i dont have a hard time believing....u'll see the error code on the links.

Sorry to hear this Faber. Your on the right path from the second link you posted. Its not a hardware issue but a software. I would let dell know its not a hardware issue and provide the information you stated here. Unfortunately. microshaft does not have a fix and the best solution per article 946084 is to start the system with W2K or XP disk. Either way, I think your going to lose all your data you had saved.

Before you try the fix, You should be able to break into the software before it fully boots up. I beleive its F8 or F12 and try to start the system in safe mode, Then go in and remove that file
$TxfLog. Also, beaware that file is hidden. ANY file with a $ in front of it, is a hidden file. :biggrin_2558:

appr. th reply, tried everything, safe mode....pretty well everything can think of....safe wont work...there is some way i read to save data, or avoid reformating thru that one guys article and linux- and some other info. i've read.....im not sweting the data- all her picks of family are backed up.....tried to explain it to dell and even sent links i posted here, xps help people didnt seem to get it....so lettn' them do their test- maybe they'll take time to read what i sent them, then see where goes from there....i've tried, so if they send me free hard drive, ill fix this one and have a free one.
yeah i think its defiately software microshaft issue....like the one link said, to....
-figured i'd just give ya'll a heads up
