The new drivers have a responsibility too....to hold the trainers feet to fire....the new driver/s your son , any new driver have to understand that while it might not be the popular thing to do , they MUST demand that the trainer do their job....this means they are to sit up in the passenger seat the entire time the student / new driver is under the wheel...period...... explanation point. If the trainer refuses to do that then the new driver needs to immediately report them to dispatch...But , all of this can be avoided by asking a simple question before signing on to work for any company that says it will train you....ask them if the trainer is required to sit in the passenger for the entire time the student is behind the wheel...THE ENTIRE TIME.....if the answer is no , then tell that perspective employer no thanks....your son may not be being completely factual in his description of the accident....if he hit the last ( doe ) crossing the road there would have been at the very least some hair / possibly a dent or some fiberglass damage to the front end....

You can demand all you want. These companies are not known as MILL'S. For nothing. You have to be kidding me if you think prime, swift, and these other guys have quality trainers. For the amount of students they push out. I helped a Stevens guy the other day at a Walmart who couldn't back out a wet paper sack. These companies are giving these guys and gals shotty training and throwing them out to the wolves. Yes no trainer is going to teach you everything. But time after time I see these guys ask for more training and they can't get it because there time is up.

You have these trainers who are lazy and just want to boss people around. Just like that guy who is always running for America's. Next Top Forum associate. Wait never mind the last part.

Tony, from another Tony, I can whole heartedly agree with you. However, I too remember when I first started out, and from MY experience, I can say that the trainers I have had were intimidating. They would go on and say how they knew every road in America and how they can get from A to Z in time for breakfast, lunch and then dinner. They would say how many years they have been driving, and who they know and what they know. AND most importantly, how they can and WILL "F" you up so bad, you'll wanna commit suicide rather than rat them out.

Now way back when, for wheels we had wooden discs as tires, the trainers used these intimidating words to "scare you straight, and do as THEY SAY, OR ELSE.!

Today's newbie(s) are (I think) just as afraid as many including me, were back then. Unless the newbies DO SPEAK UP, the trucking companies will always think the trainers are God, which in fact, I WAS TOLD by a safety manager at one company, "WE WILL ALWAYS BELIEVE WHAT ONE OF OUR TRAINERS WILL SAY OVER A STUDENT DRIVER".

So, how does one scream for help under such duress?
Until the trucking companies get back to basics in on the job training, the new student drivers will almost never call out for help, and get fired long before a trainer will ever "have his day in court".

As the old timers like you, me and a few others are, which we WILL TELL SOMEONE TO POUND SAND, OR I'LL POUND YOU, the newbies take the sheet, get fired or up and quit. Sadly too, some newbies are good, I know of a handful of new ones over the years, that were dedicated to the core, but could not put up with the crap some of those so-called trainers dish out.

To the trucking companies, a trainer can do no wrong.

Someone else said earlier, there ought to be at the very minimum a 5 to 10 year experience level for a trainer.

again sadly, some companies, Swift comes to mind first, that after a newbie reaches 6 months(??) he is asked to become a trainer. The old adage, "the blind leading the blind" applies here. Still wet behind the ears, and skid-marks in their shorts, yet they are asked to be trainers where the $$$$'s are!

I think there may be quite a number of us that fit that description! It's just that more of them are appearing in the same thread than is "normal.":biggrin_25526:

What if you got terminated from training and NOT given a reason and it goes down on your DAC Report as "Terminated from/during training and NOT re-hirable"?

I'm pretty sure there is a reason. Now how about the rest of the story?
