Hey all I have my commercial drivers license already, class b. But next week I'm taking a 2 hour class and headed to the dmv to test with a manual transmission class b tractor without trailer to remove my automatic tranny restriction.
Ill be testing on a international tractor with a 6spd manual tranny. I have experience driving a manual transmission, but is driving the international tractor with manual tranny similar to a non commercial truck with manual tranny?
im looking for any suggestions on how to drive a manual tranny class b bob tail tractor. Is it just ease off the clutch give it some gas and go? Let me know all, I'll be testing next week.

if i remeber correctly that would be the 6+1??? if it is i BELIVE it is a synchronized tranny, just ease off the clutch wait for it to grab then roll into the throttle, then just clutch it in
but if possible tee if you can drive it BEFORE the test to get familair with it -
Thanks, I will be driving it and getting familiar with it for 2 hours. I'm pretty confident, it won't have a trailer, I'll have full view of where the truck is at, etc. thanks!

2 hours really isnt enought IMO. can you get it for 3-4 hours before you test? any reason your not going to test with trailer?

Much easier to shift with trailer.

I already have my cdl, I'm driving a bob tail tractor in manual tranny to remove my auto tranny restriction. I'm testing without the trailer because I'm a class b driver, I have no need for a class a.

Escaping your restriction to automatics isn't going to teach you to shift a unsynchronized transmission, and you're not going to learn it in a couple hours, or a day. -
OK, good deal. Glad you are getting more qualified, you never know what the future will bring.

If you're testing on a 6 speed . then you'll need more testing to remove that restriction I think ( not sure) , most if not all tractors rated as class 8 vehicles have a 9 speed or a 10 speed transmission many have 13's , 15's , or even 18's ...nothing close to what you're testing on....you are fixing to jump from the frying pan into the fire there pal.
