I am currently attending driving school and have had my app approved from prime ive been going to class for 6 days and its a 3 week class but my instructor said that i am way more advanced then the rest of the students and i am ready to test out and do my road test. my question is, is this a good thing seeing that im catching on to everything so fast or is not such a good thing that i would test out that early? i dont think that they are trying to push me through to just make money because the rest havent even done highway driving or city driving they just been doing country back roads. im hoping this a good thing!

I went through an accredited school a few years ago. I thought there was a required 160 hrs of combined classroom and driving requirement in place?

In addition, why would you want to forego the opportunity to learn as much as you can before you jump out into a company setting?

If Prime is ok with it then go for it. You're going to learn more out on the road than you will in a CDL school. At least from my experience I think you will. Good luck!

I used to train guys. I had a guy get on my truck that went through a "CDL School" in like 14 days. He couldn't drive worth crapola, do a simple log entry, read a map, slide tandems or 5th wheel. His sign reading was horrible, etc, etc, etc.

How he ever passed his written and driving test with the DMV, is beyond me.

The more training you have, the merrier. Driving the vehicle itself isn't even half the battle.

BTW, if you can fluently read and write English then you're already more 'advanced' than most other drivers.

i am actually getting more 1on1 time then anyone else in my class while all my driving is done with just me in the truck and the others having to share the other truck is factor in y im advancing faster then others. my instructor puts me in every situation he can when possible to do so. my main worry going into this was the downshifting and i was able to do that with no problems at all. but all im trying to do is get input on if this a good idea or not have done mock pre trip, yard maneuvers and road test and would of passed with a very good score.

IF you have done your homework, crossed t's and dotted i's and feel confident, it's time to hit the road. Go for it, it's time to take the next step.

that sounds funny! testing out early! just watch out. if the feds find out that you didn't complete the required 160 training. they will take your cdl. and he11 will freeze over before you get them back. and that is a fact. so you might want to tell the school you want to complete the course before testing out. it sounds like the school is going for fast money. and that is a problem.

I remeber when I was in school the difference between lil country roads and city driving differs more than some believe. The lil country roads your going to be watching that back tire on the trailer some to make sure your not crossing over onto the other side to much for oncoming traffic, and vise versa when the right side trailer tire is going near the offroad you put your tractor more closer to the inner line but they teach you that in school. City driving your more alert on other drivers, when it's appropriate to change lanes and checking mirrors and got to watch for the blind spot. 4 wheelers *how some truckers call it* dont watch out for your blind spot, they will be just driving, singing to there music, on the phone, or road raged and not giving a rats arse on your big 72ft truck. So double checking is always good, and that windo on the bottom door is good to use also just incase that 4 wheeler is on the blind spot. If your not know of these techniques as of yet I wouldnt suggest going OTR yet. Also learn backing in school, dont get out there clueless cuz it will rape you.

Any school that would allow any student to "test out early" should be shut down.

I'm not saying the OP isn't skilled enough to do it. But if they'll do it once they've done it before and will continue to do it. This is why all these "schools" need to follow a set criteria.
