when I went to get my A permit, I inquired with the head Lady if Texas will put a restriction on your license if you test out in an Automatic Truck. The kind Lady said "no, not at the moment"
However she also said that come October they will begin adding restrictions for those that do, she also said that many new rules will be implemented in October for those that are wishing to get their Cdl.

I'm just passing the word along so don't shoot the messenger here. Quite glad that I should be all done a good month before all this supposedly comes through.

Interesting but if your company has mostly automatics then I guess it shouldn't be a problem

I don't know about you, but if i'm going to have a CDL I want absolutely 0 restrictions on it if its within my ability. Especially one so frivolous as an Automatic restriction.

Why would one willingly narrow their job options?
Say your automatic truck breaks down and the rental you get is a manual, legally you cant drive it.

Yep September is the deadline to make decisions on Map 21. Gonna be a lot of changes over a three year implementation period.

Drivers tend to bounce around jobs. Maybe ur dream job has 13 or 18 speeds. I agree something as stupid as an automatic restriction should be avioded. If u ever wanted to drive a manual u would have to retest.

    Automatic restriction? Seriously?

Go back into my threads and read about Manuals and why you should learn to use one (Or even specifcally ask for one). To increase your value to the company. You might even like it.

Automatic for me was a good thing in some cases and cost quite a bit of money in busted load appointments and tows costing hundreds of dollars an hour because the ones we had in a 24/7 truck could not dump it's software buffer while running and then brick.

An automatic restriction on a license will hurt the Industry nationwide and generate terrible teasing and joking about how real truckers use a manual while the dummies get to push a button. We don't need that.

I think in 10 years 90% of the industry will be automatic you may have some trucks that will be electric trucks...
