last i checked California has been pretty much totally locked down with facemask mandate and texas has been relatively open for months and now fully opened..so this pretty much debunks the mask bs...mandating mask is useless...should be left up to individual who choose too and not those who are offended by people who make decisions for themselves.

If masks work, then why the need for a vaccine?
If vaccines work, why the need for a mask?

Last summer I got a call from one of my tenants that a pipe in the basement was leaking. I went over, cut the water and put a temporary patch on, then scheduled a plumber to replace the pipe (cast iron pipe, looked great from the outside, the inside was rusted through). I left a bucket underneath and asked the tenant to dump it if it got full. I put in place temporary, stop gap measures to minimize the impact to me and my tenants while I worked on a long term solution.

Same thing with masks, hand washing, social distancing, etc. It's a temporary solution to mitigation the impact of the novel virus as we develop a long term response.

Okay, I read that study a while ago. Here is my problem with it:
"The control group was asked to continue with their normal practices, which may or may not have included mask wearing"
All the study shows is that cloth masks provide less protection than surgical masks. It doesn't show that it doesn't help anyone, or that cloth masks make the wearer more likely to get sick. 1/3 of the control group wore medical masks, while over 1/2 of the control group reported using a mix of cloth and medical masks. The study authors state:
"The study design does not allow us to determine whether medical masks had efficacy or whether cloth masks were detrimental to HCWs by causing an increase in infection risk. Either possibility, or a combination of both effects, could explain our results"

After the start of the pandemic, the study's authors published a response to health care workers asking "if proper PPE is not available, should they work without masks?".
"In this case, the physical barrier provided by a cloth mask may afford some protection, but likely much less than a surgical mask or a respirator."
And all of this is in a health care setting. For the general populace, any slowing of transmission is a good thing. At this point, medical grade masks are prevalent and affordable. They do no harm and have the potential to do much good.

I had a run in with doctors about 20 years ago over an ailment I had. .

I learned doctors are lot like mechanics. There's a lot of them ,but few good ones.
