Dang, glad that driver is ok. He must have been praying cause that could've killed him easily. Such a nice looking rig to, see the steering wheel was bent down he must have been hanging on for dear life.

Looks as though if he didnt have the back window, he would not have had the pipe entering.

The flimsy alum skin of the sleeper wouldn't have stopped the pipe either.

Here are some other pics of a similar accident.

Whats the deal with no headache racks? The article said he had to be taken away with non-life threatning injuries. What happened when they got to him he needed a shower and a laundrymat to clean crap out of his underware.

a headache rack will not stop that much pipe......i might slow it down alittle but thats about it

also, they are no longer mandated by the DOT, hence you see alot of guys running without one on

They are no required if you have a headboard on your trailer if not it is.This guy just didn't have his load tied down good enough.People get lazy and get away with it more than not.

It doesn't have to completely stop it, a thick cabinet rack would have slowed that pipe down tremendously, so much so I bet it wouldn't have even made it more then a foot into the back of the sleeper. A cabinet rack full of chains and straps can slow down a pretty surprising amount of stuff, and slowing it down is the key, not stopping it completely, because for that you'd have to have a 2000 pound steel plate mounted behind your sleeper.

I honestly laugh really hard when I see these guys with those cheap buckboard type headache racks that just hold chains and nothing else. Like do you REALLY want to have to fight for storage space? The spaces under the bunk on each side are for tools/spare lights/belts/oil/anti-freeze, that kind of stuff, not straps! I have to have a cabinet rack or else deck work is just to much of a hassle.
