What are the advantages of running Texas HOS vs Federal? If my authority is based out of Illinois, but I only run in Texas, do I have to follow federal HOS or can I run on Texas HOS.

You can only run intrastate HOS if the load originates, terminates, and never leaves the state. If you go to a border town drop yard and hook to a trailer that was loaded in Mexico, you have to run federal HOS. But if that same load was offloaded into a Texas dock and then loaded on your trailer (and the load is destined for Texas only), then you can run intrastate hos.

You also need TX intrastate authority, but you already need that if you are just running TX

Ive got a question.. So many different pages with different HOS rules! I have a driver doing intrastate within a 100 mile air-radius and i cant seem to figure out what his HOS is? Is it 15 hrs on duty with 11 hrs of driving? Or 14 on duty 12 driving? Its confusing Texas by the way also lol

    FMCSA to TX Translation:

10 hr. Rest Period becomes 8 hr.
11 hr. Drive Time becomes 12 hr.
14 hr. On Duty becomes 15 hr.
34 hr. Reset remains 34 hr.
    70 hr./8 days becomes 70hr./7 days.

I worked TX intrastate HOS rules while hauling crude and came to form the opinion that TX HOS rules safe, fair, and what the FMCSA rules should be.

    Vurtle Thanks this.
