I was in. 65mph zone yesterday & the truck in front of me kept going slower & slower, & sort of straddling lanes, weaving in & out. By the time it got down to around 50mph, I hit the left lane to pass. I thought maybe the driver was having a stroke, so I looked over & nope, he was grinning into the phone in his hand.

I decided from now on, any time I see a trucker texting & driving, I'm going to report him to his company and to the DOT.

If you can't resist the urge to text, then go get a job at the mall with the other teenage girls. Because you don't deserve the responsibility of driving an 80,000 lb machine in public. You're a danger to innocent people.

What about the clowns with their iPad velcroed to steering wheel. Technology has created idiots. We never used to be looking at a GPS, or phone or all those other gizmos. You paid attention to the road, too many distractions today all part of making the job easier.. I don't think so. I still will use a post it note on dash with exits and road names over a GPS changing its directions halfway through a lane change

    I disagree slightly.

Idiocy has always been prevalent. It will always be. Technology has only made it more accessible & visible.

What it boils down to, IMO, is how & when you use the tools placed at your disposal.

I use GPS on a tablet mounted to my dash with Google maps.

I never text or chat. Seriously, if people need to gab, just get a Bluetooth headset.

You'll be spending a lot of time on the side of the road making phone calls. If that is the worst thing that happens you'll be lucky.

Yep, there's too many doing it to report them all. You see so many doing stupid stuff that trying to be the 'distracted driving police' would be a never ending endeavor that would likely backfire in some way. Calling the cops is pretty much pointless. Better to just myob.

Or is that partly why it's gotten so bad?

I wish I knew the answer to that but with so many distracted drivers running into stopped traffic something needs to happen.

When I see a driver who's erratic I call out on the CB and ask if they're OK. Only got a verbal response once but a good number do start driving properly once they realize how obviously bad they're doing. Of course they're probably right back at it 10 minutes later.
