Stirring the pot on a dead subject? Maybe so, but I have to speak my mind just the same because this argument burns my arse.... Now on this spelling and grammar issue, these "old timers" couldn't be more right, why take your time to respond to, or help, anyone who doesn't care to take the time to put any thought or effort into what they say? I'm not saying perfect punctuation or perfect grammar is necessary, quite to the contrary, but at least make it legible, it isn't that hard. And I'm only 25 years old just for the record, so don't blame it on an age difference, or being a part of a different "demographic" because that's just bs. It's all about being a respectable, and respectful, adult. You can't expect anyone to take you seriously if you don't take yourself seriously. It honestly doesn't take a measurable amount of time to just type "straight" as opposed to "str8" (just as an example, not trying to call out anyone specific) give me a break, is it honestly worth that .001 seconds that you saved to make yourself look like a clueless immature fool? I'll probably get cussed for what I've said, but so be it, it's the truth rather some people want to accept it or not.....
To the original poster, I will echo the advice given so far. Before you even think about becoming an owner operator, much less an independent, you really need to get some miles under your wheels as a company driver. There is far more involved than just buying a truck and trailer and hitting the road, but I assume you already know that. I've only been doing this close to four years, which is certainly not as long as most of the members here, but I have just finally come to the point that I feel I have enough experience in the industry to make a go of it as a lease operator. By this I mean that yes, I will be purchasing my own truck, but I will sign on with a company, who will find and assign the loads, cover insurance, IFTA reporting, etc. NEVER buy/lease a truck from the company you work for. Some of those deals work, but there are far to many horror stories about people who lost their shirt.
That's probably because he wised up and realized that TRUCKING is now spelled with an F as the first letter, minus the R
i'm still stuck on the fact that a guy has being driving big trucks since he was 17. thought you couldn't get intrastate until 18. must have been all farm work.
