I have been on this forum for a while now. I'm a newbie/ wannabe with my CDL but no trucking job or experience. I have to say I feel like this forum has welcomed me with open arms! Even when my opinions are different than others. The replies I have got were never overly confrontational or rude.

About a year ago I joined a plumbing forum because that is the profession I've been in for the last 10 years. In my first post that I made I got blasted by almost every member on the board. And noticed so did every other new person that entered their world.

They were not there as professionals even though they said they were. All they wanted to do was try to start trouble and pick on other posters. No one was there to help. If you weren't part of their click you would get bashed every time. And these were my piers. We were supposed to be there to help each other out!

I just wanted to say thank you to all the truckers on here that take the time to answer every question, even those from the greenest of newbies with professionalism and respect.

Everyone on this forum is truly a cut above the other "professional" forums that are out there. Thank you.

The plumbers being rude were probably union guys.

I try to treat new posters as they appear to act:smt041. Truckers learn to see through the BS, and we are usually pretty good at sizing people up. If the first post or two shows me the person is honest, wanting to learn:dontknow: / share:smt115 about the trucking business, I will bend over to try and help. If they do not want to take advice, question other posters integrity, refuse to read past posts where this has already been discussed, seem too lazy to find information already on the web, and needlessly argue with others:violent1:, I leave them alone:shaking2:.

Hey Chinatown, They were both union and non-union. I can't say one was worse than the other. The reason they gave for bashing everybody was because they didn't want homeowners coming in and learning how to do plumbing. In a way I understand that but as time went on I realized that all they wanted to do was argue with each other and put people down. Seems to be the way most of the people in the trade are too. I can go to a truck stop and talk to drivers all day and most of them are willing to answer some questions. Of course every profession has the grumpy people that don't want to be bothered. But plumbing seems to be more than others. Maybe it's just because i'm around them every day but I very rarely get an attitude from a trucker when I ask questions at truck stops.

Did you ever find a driving job? A guy on here recently posted a mom & pop trucking company in NJ is looking for drivers. If I find the post, I'll send it to you.

I haven't tried yet chinatown. I have been working on getting my record from 20 years ago expunged before I start looking. But the good old court system is giving me the runaround and just postponed my court date. I can most likely get a job without it expunged because it's been so long. But I want the greatest chance of getting the best job so I figured I would just get it removed first.

But yea, If you see that post again let me know!
