LOL life is gonna get fairly easy for those of us with half a brain cell left, if this is what the competition is doing... Some of the blame needs to be put on the parents as well.

I drove 5 hours once to interview a guy. I'd been trying to hire a guy there for months, and this guys application, experience, and references were great.
I told him to meet me at a restaurant in that town. Dude shows up with his wife and two kids.
No point in talking about the job anymore. I paid for dinner and left.Trucker61016, FullMetalJacket, Speedy356 and 5 others Thank this. -
I’m technically Gen Z and don’t know a single peer that has done this.
Just typical stirring the pot for gullible, washed up boomers to get off to after they cry about not being able to operate a self checkout machine. Understandable — if my body was slowly crippling, and my 3 brain cells were powered by the remnants of lead poisoning, I’d try and find an outlet for my bitterness as wellLast edited: Aug 8, 2025 at 2:28 PM

I’m not saying there aren’t some lazy, embarrassing Gen Z folks, but pretty bizarre for an older generation to be pointing and laughing at the future of their country.
I do think my generation can make more sacrifices to help out a bit, but older generations yell the solutions and the solutions become more unobtainable.
“Buy instead of rent” — national average for home prices increases by 25% in Gen Z’s prime, young adult years, along with interest rates climbing to 6%+, even with great credit and money down
“Get educated” — college tuition costs skyrocket
“Live within your means” — basic sustenance like groceries, utilities, and transportation skyrockets in price
Wages? Stagnant
I’m not saying it’s not doable, I’m just saying the finish line gets further and further. Even as someone that regularly eats ham and cheese sandwiches for dinner, lives cheap in a low cost of living area, stayed out 6-8 weeks at a time for the last year, and made a very solid living in the last 12 months, it’s still *just* enough to be financially comfortable (as in retirement, savings, etc.) and not just barely skating by. It’d be unreasonable to say that 70 hour weeks and living in a truck should be normalized to achieve that. I enjoy it, so I’m not complaining about the job, but I don’t think most people would.

Sorry for the rant over a news clip on a trucker website. Just gets tiring with older Gen X and baby boomers punching down on a generation that just became adults and trying to figure things out. Lots of hard working Gen X’s and boomers for sure, and achieved lots of great things. The difference is those traits back then meant getting ahead, and those traits today mean barely getting by for lots of young folks. And then the older folks will cherry pick the bottom of the barrel Gen Z’s as a basis to disregard struggles of Gen Z’s actually trying to be productive. -
Numb Thanks this.
