As in all things, context is king.

If the headline read "Gen-Z is using all their resources to land a job", it makes it look like a positive story about "The Youths", which doesn't play as well with the typical Fox audience. Expanding to the world at large, rage bait beats positive stories every time. Or change the headline to "Managers are so bad, entry level workers turn to their parents for help completing work tasks" - that wouldn't play at all.

The 'study' itself is suspect - 900 responses is less than half the minimum sample size needed to extrapolate out. When the responses all come from a single vector, the data is nearly useless. Then compare the 'results' year over year - I don't know if the questions changed, but the responses sure did, which again indicates unreliability.

And so what? A kid asks his parents to proof read his resume - there would be no outrage over 70% of Gen-Z asking friends for help applying for jobs, or job leads, or a ride to an interview. Change 'friend' to 'parent' and now us old folks can stop yelling at clouds and start making fun of those darn kids.

Finally, I'd love to see the same survey given to Millennials, Gen X and Boomers when they were the same age - how many people get their first job through some kind of nepotism? How many of us didn't go to our parents for advice on a myriad of topics?

I'm sure there's truth to parents coming to apply for the kids, just like there's truth to a lot of the 'trucker stories' that get repeated as first person accounts, but most of this 'news story' is out of context BS.

I've said it before. Just showing up on time and following basic instructions puts you into the top 20% just by default lol.

Rush Limbaugh said it decades ago: "Show up for work. On time. Every day. And you will be ahead of over fifty percent of your competition right out of the gate."

Thrasher makes some significant points. Opportunities aren't as easy as in the boomers' days, and y'all can't deny that we're being financially squeezed more and more from every angle. Things have, indeed, changed for the worse. But no matter the circumstances, we all have to do the best we can for ourselves, by our own efforts. Being dependent on anyone can only last so long.

My parents are the oldest Gen X, almost Boomers. You think my old man had it easy? Working long days away from home, trucking away in the mud, slop and snow out in the bush? Leaving my mother to raise us on her own 5 days a week? When he came home for the weekend he had to spend all his free time wrenching on his bucket of bolts so he could go back to work on Monday to provide for us. The only time I got to see my dad for the longest time was if I picked up some wrenches and helped him out. I grew up seeing what hard work and sacrifice look like. Gen Z is all about image and social media clout. They want everything without having to earn it.

You should read what Nixon and Kennedy said about the early Boomers / late Silent Generation during the 1960 campaign. TLDR summary - "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country". And don't forget what Boomers said about Gen X, then Gen X and the Boomers said about Millennials - it's the same as what the Boomers, Gen X, and Millennials are now saying about Gen Z. Give it 10 more years and Gen Z will be ragging on Gen Alpha.

I don't fully agree. People talked a lot of trash about us Millennials, I don't deny that. On the other hand I don't remember us Millennials needing the level of coddling that Gen Z seems to require.
