We had one of our casual customers tell us on Monday they were going to use another carrier for six (Five flatbeds and one stepdeck) loads going to Georgia because our rates, according to their new shipping manager, "Were a bit too high". Fast forward to yesterday afternoon when at 3:00 p.m. I get a conference call from our President of sales, my dispatcher and the shipper to see "How much is it going to cost us to get these loads moved" because el cheapo never showed up!!! The damage? Our original rate+an extra $50 per load to shuttle them the trailers+$59 for a motel room for me to stay in town overnight+ $23 an hour for me to load the trailers today (7 hours). Plus they had to pay their loading crew time and a half to come in on Saturday. I wonder how long that guy will have his job?

i had a boss that lost a customer cause they said his rates were too high. within a month the customer was wanting him to haul for them again but for the rate he was cut for; he told them if they wanted him to haul it, his rates just shot up another .50cpm & fsc another .15cpm to what he was charging before they took the loads from them. they gave in & every time someone tried to undercut him they never got a load cause the customer knew already no one could give them the service he was

My company has been undercut a few times and lost the business to a cheaper carrier out of the mill we are based at and we always got it back within a few months. You do indeed get what you pay for.

I keep hearing of people getting undercut lately and losing their deal and then the el cheapo's dont even show up. The rates are almost unbelievably cheap, I wonder what is happening

My theory...things are a little slower and brokers need to keep their volumes up. They will cut the rates on anything or work try to cover something for $25. When they can't cover it they just don't show.
