Running through Europe, I carried 2 spare wheels/tires, air jack, and 3/4" or 1" impact gun. Changed many wheels, pulled many tires off and ran, and so on.
I doubt 75% would even have a clue HOW to change a tire anymore....Which is sad in my book.
I have also seen fleet trucks in line to get a light fixed etc, and when asked if they want to be shown how to do it, they say they dont care and will wait.
    Cant fix stupid I guess.....

iv done a lot of work on my truck in truck stop parking lots but for the cost of tire work its worth it to me to let a tire shop do it. iv done my own tires before and for the 35 bucks ill let them do it.

    Truck stop jobs...
    Rebuilt Jake brakes.
    Replace pushrods and injectors.
Ran more overheads than I care to remember.
    Water pump.
    Belts and tensioners.
    So on....
Last week we mounted 2 tires onto my pilot car's vehicle, in a truck stop. Broke the bead with the landing gear on the blade trailer, Dawn dish soap did the rest pretty much.....

Hey llt, broke the bead with the landing gear, great thinking! I used a hyd. jack, and a 4x4 and let body down on the tire.(on a car tire). I did all the work on my trucks on stuff that would unbolt, clutches, alternators, water pumps etc, even did a radiator on my Western Star. But for someone not to know how to change a light bulb is terrible. Once I bought 8 drive tires from a truck junkyard, and used their impact and did the ether thing, but now, my back says, "nice try, pal", and I'd let a tire shop do the work.:biggrin_2552:

I feel the same way, changing tires pisses me off, and I have everything to do it at the shop. I just had 10 new tires put on awhile back, and was very happy sitting in the lounge reading a magazine waiting for the "tire guy" to do it for me.

I normally pull a RGN, so would have been a little more difficult, but where there's a will.....
I can't believe that folks wait in line for hours on end for a 2 minute fix, crazy in my book.
A few weeks ago we were left on site with the blade trailers stretched out, crane crew went home after a lightning stand down. We need a forklift to lift the beams to take the bind out of them, to close up to 53'.
After a few attemps, we got the trailers closed up with a spare tire and a 12ton bottle jack, with the trailers back to back to stop them from sliding backwards.
Loaded the following morning 300 miles away.....

There is also a BIG difference in being at a shop, and in BFE where you either sit or get it done yourself! I get tires changed, unless in BFE, then get the impact out....

Just to clarify, he wasn't pulling the wheels off. He just parked with the inside on a block and dismounted the tires.

I've often thought I should carry a multiplying wrench but I doubt it would get much use.

As far as yearning for the good ol days, people always stop short of rubber blocks, spring seats and Armstrong steering.

If he was just pulling or replacing the outside tires, and he had nothing else to do, I say go for it. Couple of pry bars and he's off on his way when he is ready.
I have pulled a load of tires like that, when an outside one goes flat etc, and kept on truckin'.

Hey leftlane, sorry to go off topic a little, but where are you hauling your blades too? I have a friend running a dozer at a big wind farm near Ft. Dodge ,Ia. He helped many truckers unload there.
