If you can get on the dock and talk to the loader, most will load it the way you want ... if not, well it is what it is.

In my case, single in the nose, when possible. A lot of them understand, when I say, load it like a reefer. Slide tandems, so rear tires are even with rear of load, maybe a little further if it’s real heavy. No Need to scale. I haul heavy, mostly. Might scale 4-5 times a year. When it just doesn’t ride right, or if it’s an uneven load.

if i were you, i'd call the Marshal's office.

explain to the Marshal's, how one pound of feathers, weigh less than one pound of rocks.

Haven't driven OTR or a load that needs scaled for a few years now. But that's the way I did it.

Another reason why a 48’ refer is the preferable length.

90% of the time that's true. But when you have that client with 28 pallets that is offering a rediculous amount to get his load covered, I'm glad I have a 53.

That's how we've loaded salt too. Any low cube high density stuff we pretty much load it so it's not past the start of the tandems. Obviously some loads like say glass bottles you can't do it because 44k is loaded double all the way back. Try arguing with em you'll most likely get booted off the property

    My experience is the opposite.
We only had one 53’ refer in our small fleet. Unfortunately I got stuck with it when my assigned trailer needed maintenance.
Showed up to a shipper, they saw I had a 53‘ and decided to add pallets. I inquired about the extra freight fee. No dice take it or leave it. It was a Sysco load from Chicago to orlando.
