It all depends on what markets you work in. Guys that haul a lot of fresh produce need a 53 because the product is lighter, and they fill it nose to tail.
-
Backhauls are often denied to trailers shorter than 53, and sometimes refers aren't wanted, although I got a van only load on a reefer, it just barely fit, pinwheeling all the pallets to get 30 on, full height, length and width. Wasn't that heavy.
Dave_in_AZ and SteveScott Thank this. -
If there's a rule, it's your own rule.
Trucks have different empty weights.
First truck I drove could take 47,000 in the 53ft van with full fuel.
I've leased trucks that could do 45,500 in a 53ft reefer with full fuel both truck and trailer.
Rig I own can't go far over 44,000 with full fuel because I have tons of stuff in the cab.D.Tibbitt and Brettj3876 Thank this. -
Yep can take 47 here if loaded perfect but like to keep it 44.5 or less. 32,680 empty
