The Dongle is tied to the ECM and it can be connected to another Electronic device that runs the app. Thus is it ELD Compliant.

Now you qualify your statement that it seems for all states, yet the OP stated NC. Now in reading that I find a number of issues with it.

DVIR are not required daily anymore.

Targeting Garmin and Rand McNally is illegal if it is an ELD compliant device.

Cat scale tickets - sometimes you have to go out of route to get one.

IFTA reports - who really carries their IFTA reports with them?

Printing logs - FMCSA states either print or show display on an ELD Compliant device.

OP did not show a source but written information. Thus anyone could have just typed it up. If you post such a glaring letter then show a source. Freedom of Information Act.

I would take the OP's thread in the Hotshot forum with a grain of salt.

So, before this spreads like wildfire I asked the OP to state a source. I have a phone and I will also be contacting the NC DOT to verify or not. RM will become involved if they disqualify an Rand ELD compliant device.

So look at the Hot Shot thread again...

Before this turns into an ELD rumor or bashing discussion, maybe take this topic to another more relevant thread? I posted my out of the box experience with the tablet 80 paired with the ELD-50, since this one seems to be more of a "what do you think about it" discussion on the formerly new tablet product.

Whether the NC "memo" is real or not, I believe that it points out the widespread ignorance on the topic, no doubt it will go deep with law enforcement along with everyone else. I'm sure the fine people who are at the decision making pay grade at RM already know they will have their hands full promoting the legitimacy of their product, as well as offering sufficient support to buyers. If not, it will become at least a PR disaster.

My main point was directed at the one truck small fleet owners: it's more difficult to use than it looks. That's not a strike on RM, they all do the same thing more or less the same way. Don't make the mistake of making a last minute purchase and think you're going to have it up and solid 15 minutes out of the box. Then have to go through a weigh station a few miles down the road and have your livelihood depend on a poorly or improperly configured ELD system.

I found it thanks,,, and I have turned it over to the legal department at Rand McNally. If the Rand is an ELD compliant device then they cannot put you OOS for simply using it. Now if your logs are off that is a different matter, but simply because of the Brand is no legal.

I think they might be talking about a stand alone GPS with no ELD ties, but it is a pretty open statement.

I agree, this is not the thread to be now talking about what is on the Safety Blitz.

So now back to the channel.

Nice summary.. I did pass this to the higher food chain at RM and I mean Director level and up. They may want to contact you about some of the ELD issues.

    Thanks,

You are correct sir. They are referring to the HOS log "lite" that is built into the Garmin / Rand / Cobra / etc GPS devices and NOT the ELD companion-enabled version. The log built into those without an ELD companion is not a legal E-Log (paper log replacement) like the DDL program or the Eclipse program are. However, if the driver has the ELD add-on device connected to their ECM then it IS a legal ELD paper replacement, regardless if the input device is an ELD-enabled compatible Rand or Garmin GPS model.

Bought a tnd80 at loves in October last year in hopes to use unit for ELD mandate. Can't express how disappointed I am in Rand McNally. Unit will not stay charged in its magnet holder. Map was not up to date when I purchased the unit. When the update became available the unit would not update. Called RM and sent the unit in for repair. I got the unit back today and it is frozen on the ra
Rand McNally start screen. This in not acceptable for a unit that cost 500 dollars.

For the guys using it, how's the dashcam to use? From looking at the device I get the feeling that having it at a good angle for the camera would put it at a bad angle for viewing the screen for gps.
