Well I've been thinking on this quite a bit and since I'm doing a 1 year lease, I've decided to go with a slightly older truck that possibly I can buy at the end of the lease. It's not the best fuel mileage truck out there, but here goes. It's a 2009 Cascadia with a series 60 Detroit 14L 470/515, 13spd with 3.58 rears with 447k on it. I know the series 60 is not the best for fuel economy, but I think 7 mpg should be doable with light loads 6 -6.5 with heavier ones with any luck. Plus the series 60 has been a very reliable engine through the years and fairly reasonable [relatively speaking] to repair. 52K with a residual value of 30K after the 1 year lease. ECM report shows from 11/2012-11/2013 of an avg. fuel mileage of 6.49, so not the best in the world, but respectable in my humble opinion. Not set in stone yet, but I'm strongly considering this option.Once again thanks DFO, Chicknwing, Sadwar and everyone for sharing yall's experiences.

What a lot of people lose sight of is the fuel surcharge. It is based on a nation wide average of 6 mpg, so anything above 6 mpg puts you in the profit area on your surcharge, lots of people get caught up in always making a profit on the surcharge, and while that is not a bad stratagy, as long as the line haul revenue is paying your cost to run per mile, then you will be doing fine. good luck and don't let the nay sayers get you down....

    Drifter42 Thanks this.

Thanks man and you are right about the fuel surcharge and the nay sayers are there whatever the topic may be..Sometimes I'm one myself lol. Also the ecm showed that the driver did a little more driving between 66 and 71 than he/she probably should and even some over 71, so that probably hurt the avg. fuel mileage a little and with an apu I didn't understand why it had 36% idle time unless it was down and didn't get repaired in a timely manner. Oh well I will just see if I can improve on that a little.

Don't get hung up on the things in the ecm download that YOU can control, what you are looking for are signs of abuse and misuse of the equipment. A DPF reading of more than 4.0 is a bad thing. A max accelerator time of any significance is important. The active and inactive codes and the the count of each is important. Fuel mileage and the like are controllable and should not affect your decision.

    Grijon and Drifter42 Thank this.

I must not have the whole report. The only thing I see so far about DPF is DPF regeneration and it just shows how many parked regen's and driving regen's. I'm supposed to get an updated report in about a week. Maybe it will show the reading.

Also don't trust fuel mileage from ECM reports, many times they are not accurate. My truck is a perfect example, reports a lifetime average of 8.1 MPG, and a trip average (since I got it) of 8.3 MPG. lol.

    Drifter42 and Grijon Thank this.
