I think $10,000 is a good idea. Someone could slash 8 or 10 tires, major breakdown even if covered under you have expenses and a truck payment, to me $10k would be a good safety net. What do I know I'm a company driver. :)

499.5 miles down, just over (or maybe under) 1k miles to go. Decided to run 50 miles OOR and run up through Charlotte NC instead of taking 59 up to TN. I have some odd hate for trucking in TN. I'm not sure why, but I avoid it like the plague. I think its the traffic and construction. I never book loads to there and route around it when possible. Anyway, will be at the Charlotte OC tomorrow night. I may stay up late tonight and sleep in tomorrow and try to start my day mid-afternoon, that way I can cruise around Atlanta without hitting traffic and then show up to Charlotte around 2-3am. We'll see.

Well, of course $10,000 is always a good idea if you can swing that. I probably would've managed that in about a year at my company job, assuming my pay hadn't gotten cut by 66% in the space of 7 days LOL.

And even though I didn't do it this way, I will always advocate having money in savings before starting this. I'd personally be struggling a lot less if I did have some savings. I'm surviving, but it's rough at times as I climb my way into the black.

Weight limit reduced on most side roads and hwys. The ground is thawing out and can cause roads to buckle

Re: TN and riding/trucking there...we vacation in Eastern TN every year, and the state troopers' motto seems to be "Ride North Carolina".

    Just sayin'

Your story is not unique.I have watched trucking go steadily down hill for the last 20 years($300 paychecks are now the norm instead of the exception). I applaud anyone who can survive much less thrive in today's trucking arena. Today I'm certain that getting paid for that last load of the week makes all the difference in the world...Thats your money...and everyone seems to have figured out how to keep drivers reaching for their money...Good Luck...SS
