    Re: your posted numbers...
If you constantly average your month to date- cost per gallon and MPG, you'll have a fuel cost per mile at a glance.
Fuel cost per mile is way more useful a number than MPG.

actually, I do it another way.....weekly.
    revenue vs. fuel
usually works out to about 33%. If it doesn't, I look back and see where the problem is; but usually I know before I ask.

I've said these things before, but they're worth re-stating......

    1. Never go anywhere you don't know how to get out of (or can't justify the DH miles)
    2. There's a reason why that load pays $3.50. Figure out why before you book it. (Right now, I'm looking at a $6.50 load.)
    3. DO NOT SIT ON MONDAY JUST BECAUSE YOU DON"T WANT TO BUY FUEL!!!! Find something that pays $300-400, get ya some gas, and roll.
    4. Take the opportunity to actually live a life. I've seen more of my GF now, than before I started trucking (she lives in Atlanta I live in Albany). But, stay focused. Set revenue goals, but set life goals too.
    5. You WILL get jacked over hunting for empties......get used to the idea now, and try not to be so PO'ed later. (It's getting better though).
    6. Be nice to Rob and the crew in Charlotte.......man, they're just doing a job and they have no more control over the situation than you do.
    7. Endeavor to wear clean underwear DAILY. (I struggle with that one).

Be happy. In my opinion, if you're gonna drive a truck for a living, this is the only way to do it.

Well that works as well, but DFO estimated (edit- more like guesstimated) his fuel cost while he knew his revenue and other costs-exactly. What I suggested to his scenario would have given him a very accurate fuel number.
