So, update for today. Yesterday I went and talked to the credit union that I bank with, only to find that they don't do any business loans at all. Great... lol.

I also talked with a local finance/leasing company that deals a lot with heavy equipment and they seemed interested. They wanted someone to cosign since I didn't really have any credit history, that was no problem. They asked me to fill out an application online and within a couple hours I'd hear back. Never did. Because of that, I think to myself, "is that the kind of people I want to be dealing with?" Probably not.

As mickeyrat pointed out in another thread, I could talk with the credit union about getting a personal loan. Not a bad idea. From what I can tell on their website my bank calls this an "open end unsecured loan" and if I paid through payroll deduction the interest rate would be 10.75%. That's a little high, but I mean its not the end of the world. Better than the 17ish% I currently have through SFI LOL. Who knows if they would go for it, but it doesn't hurt to try right?

Anyway, that will have to wait until my next time at home. I'll probably apply online and call them up when I'm on the road but I really prefer to sit down with someone in person when it comes to a matter like this.

In the meantime I'll continue watch for some decent used trucks and see what else comes up in the area. While it was what I wanted spec wise, it did have around 850k miles on the truck with a supposed 750k on the engine. I should be able to verify that through Cummins since they did have the paperwork (original engine blew up or something with low miles). But regardless, high miles are high miles. If I could find something in my price range with a somewhat recent (around 400k or so max) overhaul on the engine I would be a little more comfortable with that. It was pretty much what I expected for an older truck with high miles, although the engine seemed very tight and clean. The steer tires were obviously old and I'd definitely want those replaced, the drives were cheap recaps and who knows how long they would last. One motor mount had a broken bolt (3 of the 4 bolts were fine) and several of the gauges didn't work. Blower motor was either stuck or or didn't have a medium speed or something. AC did work well though. I'm sure it would need batteries, etc., too. Like I said it did have an APU but it appears to have not been used in a long time and it is an OLD, very big APU compared to the tiny tripacs now. It would probably be best to just remove it and sell the Yanmar diesel to someone for a boat or something.

My load leaves tomorrow so I've got to get back on the road (headed to, you guessed it, Carlisle as usual), which is probably a good thing and will force me to not make any decisions I might regret. Still got plenty of time to think this all over, and if its not one truck there are always plenty others to choose from.

Does anyone know if the older Cat 3406's work with the MCP units?

This place deals in RV surplus and salvage, they might have the Dometic (or similar unit) you're looking for. Just north of the Indiana state line, in Michigan.

Back at it today, still got about 3-4 hours to go but gonna stop and take a nap for an hour. This daytime driving makes me tired. Gotta drop this, pick up the next load then head to Carlisle for my break.

The thing with caps is how good is your casing. I worked for a company that would cap virgin casings into 4310 drives, when those wore out cap a second time to 4100 trailer tires. After that, the casing would be sold for credit back to Bandag. The average age was roughly 6 years old according to our shop and where they went from there is anyone's guess but by then that casing has become less than reliable.

I met a driver who purchased a truck at Jordan Truck Sales in GA and they tend to sell their trucks with virgin drives but they're a cheaper tire. None the less I'd rather have that vs buying a truck with questionable caps.
