I do know if I could handle the fact that every time I had to get an empty trailer I had to go all over the place and back to find one. I know that every now and then it wouldn't be to bad but every time I would end up telling someone something. I hope you are getting paid.

I think you will be much better off trying to pick live unloads. Gonna beat chasing trailers all the time. I think you shouldn't drop the trl if they don't have an empty to give you back. But I guess that is the problem with large companies. You notice they all advertise drop n hook loads.....but they don't tell you the problems with the hook part of the equation

    amen to that........

I'll add another thing that I think DFO knows but hasn't mentioned......

What's REAL frustrating in this whole process is when the company says "man, freight's gonna be REAL HEAVY over the holidays, but we're buying new trailers." Well, I say yea!!! Only problem is, and or one of the things that will really get under your skin, is when you go to the Charlotte OC and see all of the 94 an 95 series trailers being taken out of service......and you're huntin' an mty......and there are none.....and the when you finally find one, you use it to swap out with a 93 series trailer.

I like Schneider a lot, I really do. But man, from an equipment stand point, there is no management whatsoever. None.

DFO, man you got a good heart, but you need to remember you're running a business too. If you were running a bar and the beer truck shows up and you say 'give me this much beer' and the driver says 'if I give you that much beer I won't have any for the next guy and he'll have to wait till tomorrow', what are you gonna do? Same goes here. I'll never intentionally screw anyone over, but at the same time, I'm not going to jeopardize one of the two tools I HAVE TO HAVE to do my job either just because "someone else might need it". Hey, I'm sure someone else might need it, but I'm positive I WILL need it to run my business.

    Rock on, brother

I see what you mean and I know it is frustrating. You would think Schneider would have a better plan in place instead of what they have.

Sorry I missed you at Gary today! I ended up waking up around 8 and couldn't go back to sleep so I took off a little early.

It sucks because a situation like yesterday, every single search they sent me on was en-route to my pickup, so I won't get any extra pay for those miles I don't think. Just a bunch of wasted time.

Oh man I love it when I can get a quick live unload (paper rolls at a small mom-and-pop place, etc) but honestly I focus on trying to run what is going to make me the most money with the least amount of fuel burned in the area that I want to run. Beggars can't be choosers I guess, lol.

I hear ya on the older equipment, have you tried finding an empty at the Atlanta OC? None of them are marked as OOS or put in a special place so every time you grab a trailer that is basically older than a TA13XXXX, its a total crapshoot as to whether you can even get out of the gate with it or not. I always hate taking a brand new trailer to a customer for a drop and hook and then rolling out of there with a TA93XXXX trailer that looks like it could just collapse at any point during your haul.

Well, on to today's adventures - nothing exciting other than absolutely hauling ###. Oh man I fricking love how this Cummins pulls and this 13 speed. I could never go back to anything less. 514 miles in 8 hour and 20 minutes of driving including US35 and the WV turnpike. At the start of the day, a 50MPH trip plan showed me running out of the hours just short of the shipper tomorrow. Now, I have "built up" 2 extra hours. It'll still be cutting it close! But I think we'll be OK.

I have a live unload at the Walmart DC in Sutherland, VA tomorrow. Anybody done a live unload at Walmart DC before? No idea why its not a drop.

After that my 70 will be down to absolutely nothing, so I'm HOPING that they will be willing to let me drop my trailer there after I get unloaded? I don't know. Otherwise I'll have to find a place to get it off me nearby so that I can log line 5 back to Chapel Hill tomorrow.

So, maybe one of my projects while I'm at home will be to find or make a place to park an empty when I'm just stopping by home for a day or so.

Of course I couldn't help but look at the load board and see that if I get in tomorrow, I could take a restart and then run down to GA and back up to NC before Christmas... BUT I don't want to chance the loads being pulled, breakdown, etc. and spending Christmas at a truck stop. So I think I'll start my break tomorrow.

Also, sucks to see that they've sold off the Woodhaven yard. I didn't mind going up to the Detroit area because I knew I could always go there for a place to park that was safe and free. Looks like I won't be doing that any more.

Man thats wierd...if im not mistaking Sutherland DC is one of Wal-Marts intermodal yards..We take freight out of there...And to answer your question, getting live unload is a joke. I had a stop in Searcy, AR and it took 3 hrs to take off half of the load. So hopefully you'll have plenty of time on your 14 for a whole load.

Oh boy, looks like tomorrow's gonna be a fun day LOL. And if its an intermodal yard I bet they won't let me drop the trailer there after I get unloaded. Might have to find a place to park and then regain recap hours for the next day. CRAP. Oh well. I'm trying to think of any customers we have along 85 south between Sutherland VA and Durham NC that I might be able to drop it at, but can't think of any. Might call SNI and see if they have any ideas.
