I need to start talking to them to see if I would even come close to meeting their requirements. I would love to get a new truck, but we're talking well over 100k.

There was another company to IC transfer there when I did my training in GB. He had been a company driver only a month longer than me, so what 11 months to my 10. He got a brand new truck on a 1 year lease, one of the black or tan 2014 Cascadias. From what I saw they are pretty much the same as company spec trucks, 10 speed, 455 horse DD15, basic trim package, and the battery powered APU unit that is good for 10 hours or so. I think that's really the only option for inexperienced drivers that want a new truck, doubt they'd let you roll out of there with a T700 or a 579 or a 780. Used trucks there are many more options, but you are taking more of a risk that way.

    [EDIT]

I believe SFI values the 2014 Cascadias around 140k.

In comparison my truck which is 3 year old was valued at 80k.

Well said, no way no how will I be in debt to them.

Take your time looking over their inventory and choose wisely. They sent me ECM downloads and the first truck I had selected I told them to keep. The issues I saw on the ECM were enough of a concern for me to walk away. Thankfully they still had another truck I was interested in and the ECM download for that truck came back with what I expected to see and what I considered an acceptable level of risk.

Learn everything you can about the truck and how things work so you can work on it yourself. When it comes to truck specs, know what you are looking for before you even call them and let them know right from the start what you're looking for. Don't just settle for something they have because you get the bug to be an IC.

Where is their inventory? I see DFO has a bluish truck and I see other ICs with different makes of trucks than on schneidertrucks.com. Is there another website to look at their trucks? All they have on that website is their old trucks.

No they do not list their used IC equipment online. You have to call and get a SFI rep to send you a list of what they have. Since their inventory is constantly changing it would be near impossible to keep something online up to date.

    Chopper1776 Thanks this.

Forgot to mention since your a company driver you have to speak to the Company to IC transfer recruiter first. Glenn Remington is his name. He will look at your logs and then send an email to your manager to find out about your service history and safety issues. Once he approves you, you have to do the SFI app, once that's done you actually get to talk to a rep and they will send you the inventory.

    91B20H8 and Chopper1776 Thank this.

CW said something that I want to reiterate, lol:

This is the truth. They will try to push you into the truck that is most convenient for them to dump on you. They tried to do this to me in Charlotte, getting me an extremely overvalued (masking it by calling it "low-mile") fleet spec truck. I told them no and explained what I was interested in and due to the amount of details I provided she quickly realized she was not going to pull a fast one on me. If you go the new truck route, like I said you're not gonna have really any options the first time around. No problem with that, do it for a year, keep it if you like it, upgrade if you don't.

If you go the used truck route, find the truck you WANT or as close as you can get to that.

I wonder if they will finance the ex-pumpkins from http://schneidertrucks.com/ ... hell this is Schneider we're talking about they'd probably tell me I could do a 1 year lease on Charlotte's company pickup truck if I looked gullible enough.

Nope that's sadwar with the blue truck, lol. Mine is grey/silver tinted. If you want to see their used inventory, give them an idea for what you are looking for and have them send you a list of matches.

And yeah Glenn is a cool guy.

MThunter, sadwar and Chopper1776 Thank this.

I knew they would try to push a new Cascadia on me, but I knew what specs I was looking for when my rep contacted me. I told her at the outset; this is what I am looking for, now what do you have that meets my expectations. Once I set the conversation in that manner, she never once said Hey I've got a brand new freightliner.

Again do some research and know what you want before you even start. It will make things a whole lot less stressful.
