WELL made it back home tonight.

Finally made the neverending hilly adventure up 85 to my delivery at the Walmart DC in Mount Crawford, then grabbed pallets out of there and took them over to the Williamsburg Walmart and then bobtailed home to NC.

MPG was TOTAL CRAP 6.228 MPG. Pisses me off because I had to take on fuel, so I went ahead and filled all the way up, I was hoping that I wouldn't have to fuel on this paycheck. I hate doing partial fills and I really wanted to see what MPG I got, since this was grossing above 78k all the way up from southern GA. Drove it at 60 MPH the whole way, and didn't cruise on hills, instead let my momentum drop off, then would drop gears and use partial throttle to go real easy on it and shift when it started to load up too much. Drove that thing like Grandma. NOT happy with 6.228 MPG.

BUT, got home to see that my insite sofware and inline adapter have arrived. Its literally wrapped in 6 layers of packing tape so I haven't gotten it out of the box yet. Looking forward to getting that hooked up to the truck and looking at little things that could be costing me MPG, without the need to have the dealer or Cummins do it for hundreds per hour.

I also got an "important message" from my ICA, apparently throwing some kind of a hissy fit and saying "because you didn't get in touch with me today I'm removing your ability to assign loads until you get in touch with me". WTF?

I looked back in my QC messages to see if I had any from her asking me to contact her. Nope. Checked my phone for any missed calls. Nope. Got to the Walmart for delivery 10 minutes after I got the message, messaged in telling her to call me since I couldn't get in to the phones at the OC. Never got a call back.

So I'll call in tomorrow and see what the heck is going on. I got a message about a few missed DVIR reports from regulatory, I'm kinda bad about forgetting to send in the macros when I'm at home. Maybe its about that. Regardless, I'm pissed off at the fact that I have my load board assignment abilities removed for not contacting her, when I never received a message from her in the first place. I can still access the load board, but haven't tried to assign anything obviously since I'm at home for a few.

Maybe the message was for another driver, who knows. We'll find out tomorrow. No excuse for this kind of miscommunication, however. NONE.

I'll throw in my two cents worth and say that it's rough getting started. You have to account for EVERYTHING you do, and don't expect to turn a profit right out of the gate. I'm only surviving right now because I don't have a family or a large number of bills. If I had, I would've stayed at my last company and gotten at least 3 months of bill money saved up first.

Here's an example. This past Friday, my next settlement was $88 and some change. Sounds horrible, right? Well, here's why:

I took two $325 cash advances last week because my cell phone bill, my only big bill, was due and since that is my only line to the internet, the load board, and my family (parents and sister), I had to pay it. How I managed two in one week, I still don't know. So that's $650.

I had to idle all last week because my ParkSmart heater isn't working, and I was up north. Total amount of breaks last week came up to 80 hours, or roughly $320 in fuel. I haven't gotten it fixed yet because the couple places I've been to tell me it's a wait of several days (which I think is a lie).

So, factoring everything in, if everything had gone right last week, my take home should've been slightly over $1000. That's pretty dang decent if you ask me... but it didn't go perfectly, so I'm having to adapt. But if I had a major house payment or something due this week, I'd be screwed.

So before you take the leap, evaluate your financial situation and plan ahead. If you can't afford to live on a couple hundred per week for a month or two until you get used to things, save up enough cash until you CAN do that. Any decent business won't turn a profit overnight, so be prepared for that. And good luck!

DFO, Fuel sucks in the winter! They change to winter blend of fuel, mostly up north . Everyone fuel drops a little in the winter. It's best to fuel down south, before you go up north.

I've heard that's even true about gasoline. They say the price drops slightly because it's a cheaper product you're putting into your tank.

Battle Creek or Woodhaven would be okay with me. Woodhaven is pretty close to my daughter, so I could stop and see the granddaughter on the way! Missed her this weekend, 'cause the kids didn't come visit :(

DFO.....a couple of things. First your MPG might have been affected by the wind and / or rain (if you had any).....it's not always a function of the performance of your truck.
Second, if you're dispatched out of Charlotte, I'd have a talk w/ Rob. I wouldn't appreciate anyone talking to me like this and Rob usually doesn't either. It's unprofessional and wrong. It's one thing to say "I really need for you to call me before you go home", but it's an entirely different situation when someone threatens you; and it's unacceptable.

What ended up coming out of that issue? Was the message sent to you by mistake or was this person really acting like they have a stronghold on you?

Why not just call her as soon u saw the message she just u? I would have called right away instead of waiting 24hrs. Most of the time it can take hours for them to see your response. U should also see if she'll give you here Schneider email. Then u email her direc6from your phone and get a faster response

    He says why right here:

Well I hooked my tool up to the ECM on the truck today and I think this thing will be worth every penny I spent on it. Lots of cool stuff that it can do, but I won't bore anyone with the details of that. Yet, anyway, lol.

Moosc, if you re-read my post, you will see that 10 minutes after I got the message on the Qualcomm (no safe place to pull over and call immediately) I messaged back in once I got to the Walmart DC. I couldn't call in as it was after 5ish PM and the phones go to Green Bay. So I messaged asking her to call me, but I guess she took off and went home.

Anyway, I called in this morning and the reason they sent the message was because they thought I hadn't finished my 1st quarter sustainment training. Obviously I did, and my crossroads showed that I did. I didn't speak directly with the person that sent the message in (I was told they were on the phone), but I pushed for an explanation as to why I was told that my load board was being shut off because I didn't respond to their earlier messages. They hemmed and hawed about "you mean you didn't get any other messages on the qualcomm or messages on your phone?" I told them no, and straight up offered to send pictures of my Qualcomm screen and my phone calls. They just kinda trailed off and I couldn't really care less to continue on, other than knowing that my load board was back up. Whatever. Maybe they did actually try to get in touch with me but had a wrong number. However, I find it very hard to believe that they would have had BOTH the wrong phone number, AND not been able to send messages to my Qualcomm. Someone screwed up. While I didn't appreciate their pulling my access because of their own screwup, I was lucky enough to be bobtailing home so they could have kissed my *** either way, lol.

Getting the email address isn't a bad idea though, moosc. I'll try that.

It is what it is I guess, I will pick and choose my battles with the folks at SNI. Its just too bad that a lot of the office staff at Charlotte seem to come across as unprofessional and unhelpful, even compared to the support shift staff. The SS staff always answer with a "hey how are you, how can I help you", instead of a grumpy sounding "driver number!!!" squalk I get from Charlotte. I dunno, I just always try to be a nice guy, even when I've had a long day or am frustrated, to all of our customers. I feel that asking the same from the folks that I deal with every day on our end isn't too much to ask.
