Got some further info on the licensing/bridge law discussion we had before...it only applies in Missed-again. The truck is still considered an 80,000 lb max in IN, IL, & OH.
Additional information regarding the Dixie gate, also received today: it exhausts the brake chambers only but allows air to continue to flow to the belly valves and lift axle. A leaky Dixie gate valve will eventually drop the pressure in the trailer enough to allow the belly valves to close, though (I know this from personal experience...).91B20H8, popcorn169, TennMan and 1 other person Thank this. -

DFO - GREAT looking truck! Hope its running well for you and no major problems. Where did you learn how to work on them? Did you take classes or did someone teach you? I imagine it would benefit all drivers (especially self-employed) to at least know the basics. Avoid getting ripped off by shady mechanics and save money in the process.
If it's not too much trouble, I'm also curious what's the total space available for a bed in a T680? Will it fit a queen size?
Thanks for sharing your trucking experience. Great insight!Hegemeister and mickimause Thank this. -
Yes. I second that. I've been looking for a good source to learn about the basic working of the modern truck diesel engine, including the environmental protection systems.

One thing I didn't get to do much of was diagnostic stuff - since most of the mechanics there had been doing this for so long, and since we worked mostly on older equipment, a lot of the time these guys could tell you what was wrong just by knowing the symptoms. So my job a lot of the time my job became "the issues are this, which is caused by this this and this, so you need to replace this this and this."
The good thing is with all the resources available to us today with the internet and other electronic tools, even with just very basic knowledge you can save yourself a lot of money by fixing small issues yourself. You just have to be willing to learn, and sometimes that means getting dirty.
I have no clue how the T680s that SNI leases are set up. As far as I know they have a double bunk. My T600 is older and has a much different setup with the studio sleeper. If I folded down the couch I could probably fit a queen mattress on top of that. I would ask Dougal or ew about the lease T680s, I'm sure they could tell you about the bed size.
