You guys are heading that way? Perfect timing. Snow all over Sierra Nevada today. On that thread I just posted I put a link in there to the web cams at the truckee scales.

Well we made it over the hill - and on our way to Hershey, PA we repowered a solo load. That was kind of and interesting one. He was heading the same way we were, but would not have the hours or time to deliver his load. So we picked it up from him, and he hooked on to our PA load. We delivered his in IA and then met him back up in IA (50 miles back - since that is where he ran out of time for that day) and picked our original load back up and then TRIED to deliver it in PA. When I say tried, yes we did deliver it, but it was a confusing mess. The address they had us go to the first time, was the address on the bills, but they refused it. They said it was to go to the D/C - went to the D/C and they said it was to go to the original address... ARG!! Finally they said to just leave it at the D/C and they would straighten it out on Monday (don't ya just LOVE weekends!!) So we met up with Celtic Wolf on our way out there - great to met and talk with folks you only have had a chance to read. Didn't get a load until Sunday 30 minutes until it was to be picked up 150 miles away!! So we get there - when they said they would be closing - and not only got in, but had to take it back to get it reworked. All of that for a 317 mile load - but hey, better than dead heading - LOL! Now we are watching the 'truck stop' show after delivering our load. The impatience and rudeness really shouldn't surprise me, but DA##! Not really looking forward to having to get out and deal with this mess, but we need to fuel. So that brings you up to date on what we've been doing... We are planning on staying out until Nov (Thanksgiving) and taking an extended home time (10 days!!) - I can't wait!!
celticwolf, Jarhed1964, Klingon and 1 other person Thank this. -
Thanksgiving is my plan too.. Get as many miles as i can between then and now and take the 4 days off...
Since my mother-in-law probably won't be able to prepare a meal for the whole family (about 30) I will get myself home and help her.. Well knowing my wife my mother-in-law will be helping me. Which is OK with me. I'd rather she just sit this one out, but she won't..Lady K Thanks this. -
Yeah, they will try to get you to stay out but it just is never worth it. Most of the shippers and receivers all shut down so it is pretty much pointless to be out there. Unless you are looking forward to a TA turkey! Same with Xmas. Plus the traffic is horrendous especially Thanksgiving. Not only do you have the families traveling but then you have the black Friday folks racing down the interstate in their mini vans slinging kids heads back and forth while they bob and weave and eventually cut in front of you to bail off the mall exit!
Right after Thanksgiving my wife and I would always find the biggest and best pinecone and we would decorate it with stuff that we could only find in our truck. I would put some Velcro on it and then stick it to the center of the dashboard and that was our Xmas tree every year out on the road. Some driver really go all out with wreath's and lights and all kind of stuff. Not much but that was our little tradition. LadyK I am sure you and Klingon will have many of your own traditions out there. Sounds gay but you really look back on it later in life!Lady K Thanks this. -
not sure what 'tradition' we will do - but we were thinking of a wreath for Matilda's nose - LOL!
Yeah Christmas will be my daughter/husband/grandbaby's first Christmas as a 'family'. We thought we would let them be on their own - we would swing by when we had a chance and shower (LOL - yeah right) them with gifts - just like good Grand Parents - then waltz off againchompi Thanks this. -

Waiting while they unload 40K of peanut butter - and no jelly in sight!! It smells like a giant peanut butter cookie outside!! Heading to IL then TX next... glad we are moving again in Michigan City.
Klingon Thanks this. -
Well it's not our first snow of the season; that was over the Sierra's, and nothing was sticking. Now we are in Wyoming!! It would have been fine, and we would have made it - - except - - there were a couple rigs ahead of us that just had to go and slide all over the road!! So we were stopped on I-80 with a few other trucks... the snow plows came and plowed us a way to West bound and to the nearest exit... we are now camped in a Wal Mart parking lot (been here since midnight) and they (the weather report) are saying it will be snowing until this evening... I just hope they clear and open the roads!!
The frustrating part is we were all set for the weekend too!! With two other load all set up for us instead, now we sit...
Good part is - I'll be able to do my weekly bookkeeping in a non moving office AND there is a bathroom availableKlingon Thanks this.
