WE have the big moose bumper from Herd on it. It has 3 sets of aux. lights for the constant darkness. Webasto heater and a lot of changes in the ECM to the normal programing. The new trucks are special ordered with heated fuel tanks, arctic packages extra long hoods, 550 ISX, 18 speeds and so on.

    Hi Lady K (and Klingon)

I too, wanted to thank you for this thread and your posts, which I have read (and skimmed) over the last week or so as part of the "research phase" of mine & my husbands transition into "the life". As of today, I began talking to a recruiter from CRS. So far, it sounds good, but of course they have to run our background check to be sure we are a fit with them. I really hope so, since we are only 3 hours from SLC. We are hoping to start school in early Feb., then train together(?). I had a few questions for you:

Does CRS have a weight limit on their pet policy? & do u have to L/O, O/O for pet policy? We have a 9 yr old golden retriever we've had since birth, he would be happiest with us.

Concerning your lease, do u think u made or lost money on it so far? or are u expecting it to pay off after purchase? Would u mind listing some "pros" for leasing, I've read plenty of "cons" :)

I was attracted to your thread because we share a few things in common, such as this is a job we've always wanted to do and we feel very confident that we will be successful at it and intend to finish our working life in this new career. Strangely enough we, too, have been married for 27 years. (I do realize that was 3 years ago for u), but no kids. We are very lucky in that we are the happiest and most compatible couple we have ever known. Which leads me to my final (& most important) question: If u could do it all over again, what would u change? Please send me a private message if your public answer isn't completely honest. So far I wish I could re-live my life and not change a thing (well maybe a few small things :). I've been blessed with a very, very happy and fairly easy life and I'm hoping to continue with the streak.

Thanks again for all your work on this thread!

BTW: Did u get the truckstop app for kindle fire? I got it today and it looks pretty good from my couch....was wondering how it looks from the road?

    Hi <waving>

Mmm... Pet policy... I know it is one pet either cat or dog (nothing 'exotic' like monkeys or snakes) and for weight I want to say 70#?? But it would be a guess... Also I pretty sure company drivers are able to have a pet as well as L/O, as long as the pet deposit/fee is paid ($500 taken out in payments of $10/week I think it was).

Training... I'm pretty sure you will need to train separately. 3 in a truck!! It's crowded with 2!! Although when Klingon went through training, there was a couple that did just that... So it HAS been done, but that was three years ago now. We trained separately because he went first while I set things up at home... Actually training separate has an added bonus too... His trainer SUCKED, mine didn't... If we had just gotten his trainer, I doubt we would be where we are today.

Leasing... Pro's... Looking back, not many pro's besides the 'sense' of ownership. WE decide (within reason) when and where to have a service done... Or what repairs to have done. We really are just renting the truck, with an option to buy it (at market value) when the lease is up... The bonus to buying this truck, instead of a different used truck, is that we KNOW its history... How it was maintained and even IF it was maintained!! And it has been...

Looking back... You know, I don't think I would change much... Oh that first year if you had asked me I could have given you a list!! I was mourning for my past way of life... Being at home daily, seeing friends easily, the daily routine of shopping, house cleaning etc, etc... Now this is my NEW way of life... If we would have stayed company, the main bonus there would be the medical insurance and other company benifits. It's taken a LOT of figuring and work to get us medical insurance as 1099 contractors... Also if we weren't so attached to house and home... If we sold the house, stored our property and just RAN... We could have a chunk of change in the bank right now... But the house and property is one of the reasons we've worked SO hard... So we didn't loose it to the bank... And we would have...

Looking forward... Who knows what the future holds?? We make 'plans', and God laughs when he hears that word... LOL!

i wish you guys the best!! If you have any questions, feel free to ask... If we don't know the answers, we might be able to point you in the general direction :)

PS... We don't have any truckstop apps... Just a GPS that tells us where the next one is on our route :D
