Yeah, these deliveries were during business hours... Dodging Christmas tree lots and customer cars... FUN!! AND we are talking OLD Home Depots in Los Angeles, CA... They are a pain to maneuver in anyway... SO glad we are a team!!
Thankfully our daughter is older, so understands why we're not home on Christmas... In fact she is facing having to work as well :-/

Well we didn't get a load north except for half way up... So a 'bit' of a dead head... But that's what we do for our 'customer'
Not sure if some how the owner of the company found out or he would have done it anyways, but just as we finished getting loaded this last time, he slipped Klingon a $100 bill and said that Christmas dinner was on him... Such a nice guy So we will be in Las Vegas, NV over Christmas, then looking for a load heading back north again. -
Back in 2003 my dispatcher got us loads out of OR-WA hauling flowers, potted plants and bushes in all kinds of sizes, we did this for about a year, hauling out to the east coast, some loads had 15 - 25 stops on them, we where making really good money doing this, taking whatever we got going back west, the loads paid extremely well going east, but it came to an end one day, our dispatcher got too involved with the bottle and it all shrunk away for us.
I believe that was the best year for me on my 10 years in the trucking business, and I do miss that year, lots of hard work, but lots of gratitude in return.
I was leased to National Carriers out of Liberal ,KS, my first load out of Liberal was a meat load going to SLC, from then on I didn't haul anymore meat until the very last load I took back to Liberal when I terminated my lease with NC.
Now, lots of people would say that can't be true, NC is and always was a meat carrier, but I was under a local office in Minnesota where our dispatcher had only seven drivers to take care of, but it all went in the toilet, but it was good as long as it lasted.
The growers we hauled for where all very decent people that always took very good care of us while we where there, one place in Oregon the grower had showers for the drivers, laundromat, we could also eat in the cafeteria, paid $1.00 for breakfast, lunch and dinner, if we had to stay overnight, they would arrange special rate at the local motel if we wanted to, so we could get away from of the truck. -
Well it's a new year and we are still rolling... It's been >6 months since we started running under our own authority, and again, we are still rolling... One 'customer' we haul for does bare root stuff. Where we delivered to, the owner came out to talk to us and we might be doing more nursery loads... We might be finding our 'nitch'!
I read on some of the FB pages we are on, all the high $$/mile some folks are getting. However those are all SO far away from our home time zone. We've been enjoying being able to see the Kids and Grands more frequently, even if it's not for days at a time. So our loads might not pay the best /mile, but we are still in business
So we are at this time parked at a TA, going to eat breakfast after a shower and are 6 miles away from our delivery tomorrow morning. Hoping to find a load from Boise, ID to Portland, OR... Yeah, probably should have found one on Friday, but didn't... So we will see what happens tomorrowDinomite and thePUNISHER Thank this. -
Happy New Year Team Klingon! Wishing you continued success in 2015 and beyond!!
