Actually the treadle value is what helps equalizes the air to all the wheels and is normally mounted under the hood on the firewall. That pedal you referring to is a brake pedal

The brake pedal when applied goes thru the treadle valve to equalize the air to all the brakes, was just trying to make it easy for lady k to understand

Understand, but the pedal is not the treadle value, as you said the brake pedal is what opens and closes the treadle

Today was frustrating for me!! Out of 8 of us - 3 didn't get our COLA/PTI done today - that was done in the morning - and I am one of them that DIDN'T get tested yet... then the afternoon comes my first road time. I ground those gears so many times I left the transmission in pieces!! I 'think' I know what I'm doing wrong - I'm going to fast - not taking the time between the gears...then I'm trying to bash them together and not 'stroking' them. The other thing I think I did (caught it watching some one else) is that I wasn't going over far enough for 3&4 - so trying to go in between 2 & 4... sigh... so tomorrow - my test AND back on the road...

One good part though... I did OK on the straight line backing - LOL!

International T.S. Has me in a 5 week course I start on the 7th of march and my training includes: 5 weeks including winter driving, Skip Pad Course, all Hazmat endorsements, Passport, pretty much cover everything i need to not have a concern. I was just down there this morning going over it: 2 weeks class, week 3 in a truck, week 4 more class, week 5 skid pad....I am paying about $6,000 for all this but i got everything covered via a college pell grant and financial aid. So now im just waiting...

I've no doubt you're going to get this. Try, TRY, TRY to relax.

I've got confidence in your ability to do this.

Patience. You'll get it. Be gentle with the shifter. You only need a light touch and it goes right into gear.

    You're doing OK.

I've heard (no personal experience here yet) that the shifting will just hit you one morning and you'll have it... sounds like you figured out what you were doing, at any rate.

But if you can back up in a straight line, you are my current hero. :)

RELAX....biggest tip you can ever get for shifting. If you get frustrated, it gets HARDER. Just relax and ease them in there. I still grind them on occasion and I know several others that do as well, even guys with 10+ years behind the wheel. Easy to grind them when you're tired, or frustrated. I try to think ahead to my shifts, it seems to help me. If I visualize it before I do it, I don't miss the slots....don't always get them in smooth, but they DO get in there.

Like Nana said, relax. It will help you immensely. You could always do what I did to get the pattern down. Draw it. Sit in the drivers seat, and draw the shift pattern on a piece of paper, then when you're getting ready for bed, look at it. When you wake up, look at it. After you shower, look at it............just look at it, all the time. I also used youtube and watched videos of other drivers shifting. I went from missing almost every gear/grinding them all, to shifting ALOT more smoothly, and hitting most of them in less than a week.

Relax, even an old dog like me can learn new tricks, you should be just fine!
