One of the questions I asked myself when I first started thinking about driving OTR (about 3 months ago) was, how will my age affect my hireability and my just plain ability to handle life on the road. Now that I've been reading The Forum for awhile, I'm seeing that there are alot of guys/gals out there who are 50 years old and older who are just starting out. I'd like to hear more from some of you. Has your age had any effect whatsoever on your training or life on the road? If so, what effect in particular?

legally between the ages of 40 and 70 you are protected against hiring discrimination. If you wanted to be a technical pain in the butt, you do not have to give your exact age, other than being more than 40, until you are actually hired. But of course that won't help you get hired, and your birthdate will be on any DMV info they look at.
Maturity should give you the wisdom to go sleep when you need it, and not the need to party your brains out when you aren't working, leaving you better rested when work needs to be done.

And dropping fast, very fast. That's starting to be an INSURANCE issue also, as are many other things !!! I've been checking job openings lately, and of course they won't admit it, but I can tell it's age discrimination. My MVR and DAC and everything else is good. Plus I know it ain't my good looks holding me back !! I did have 1 company tell me to my face- "YOU'RE TOO OLD" . That wasn't very nice of them cheney boyz !!!

:biggrin_25519:Goodmorning, i veiw it as such, as truckdriver's , we go thru our teen year's, the know it all year's, then we up too the mid life crises, were we are slowing down and not patying soo much, then we go into our senior year , were we drive and know our job's and what it takes too get the load there on time, if i started out a company, that be the age group i be looking for ,the senior years, only thing would be holding me back, would be there health issues, like did you have heart, problems, eye problems ,ect as you get older , that's what there looking at, youngens dont have that problem, so they say, but if you hire older the ins goes up, well that's just my humble opion, Everett.:biggrin_255:
