    Who cares how much you make a mile. This per mile BS is propaganda perpetuated by large carriers and the ATA so they can control you butts.

    Ask yourself these questions:
    What miles are being used to calculate your revenue?
    What are the actual miles required?
    Why don't the two ever match?
    If you were to be paid by the mile and you only needed to move the truck one mile what rate per mile would you need to be profitable?
    What if the load went 10 miles?
    One hundred miles?
    600 miles?
    If you don't know how to figure a hauling rate range you shouldn't be an owner/operator.
    I have owned and operated my own trucks for almost three decades and never need to know how much I made per mile. I knew what I need to make per day and per week based on the distance to be traveled and how long it takes to go the distance.

    The carrier is raping anyone who is holding a steering wheel receiving under or just over a dollar a mile plus FSC. It costs the carrier on average of 1.80 per mile to break even and paying an employee driver 30 cents per mile. You’re lucky if you average 1.40 per mile. If you your gross revenue isn’t between $5,000 to $6,000 per 7 days you'll never make it in this industry. Those are the numbers and the facts.

    Finally any one who quotes you a static “I average this much per mile,” isn't a trucker, he's just some one who drank the kool-aide.

    Why are you so hung up on the $2.00 per mile thing? If you think for one second you're gonna make $2.00 a mile for all miles traveled every single day your sadly mistaken. Not even close.

    Personally, I figure on worse case scenario to see what I need to survive, around $1.40 per mile. Everything above and beyond that is icing on the cake. $2.00 a mile sounds great till the truck breaks, or you get hosed by the lumpers and they want $300 to unload you or or or or......

    My advice is to focus on a company that actually pays a fair wage, and actually pays you for the work you do, and wont leave you sitting for days on end empty. The rest will work itself out

    Yes, I understand your situation is different.

    This is what I like to hear. That's excellent!!!!!!!

    Yes, I figure my rate as an o/o pretty good thanks to everyones help on this forum.:yes2557:This is just a topic, something to network about and do just to past the time, and yes, I care because I just wanted to see if was true or not. I'm not making you read my forum, so you are free to go elsewhere if you like. Please don't get offended but these are the facts. I'm happy that you have been trucking or an o/o or whatever for three decades, I hope you do well and see another three decades, but I disagree with your facts about having to make "$5to$7k per wk or you'll never make." That's not true for everyone, maybe in your world but not everyone.:biggrin_25513:

    I know that I'm not going to make $2.00 a mile for all miles everyday, I hope I do, but unlikely. Just because you don't make it doesn't mean that no one else isn't making it, beside why are you so up set anyway?:biggrin_2556: I thought I title this forum "The almighty $2.00 a mile theory" which means people are going to give their opinion about it, some good and some bad. But why can't we discuss it, that's the purpose of making a thread. And yes, I respect your opinion as well, but please don't try to kill my topic.:biggrin_2557:

    P.S. I'm not looking for a company to work for. I will be working with my own authority, but thanks for your advise.

    I made $2.00+ per speedometer mile for 2010. Now for the rest of the story~ I'm pulling a specialized trailer.

    If you don't already own a truck and have it leased to a company, you might want to wait on getting your own authority.

    Best thing to do is lease on to a carrier and learn from it. Then you will have a better understanding of rates. Van would be the most simple, don't know much about reefers, and flats are a little more complicated.

    I've seen many guys get their own rights and jump into the trucking industry with hopes of setting the world on fire to only end up being part of the problem, not the solution.

    Heck, I hope you figure out how to make $5.00 a mile every mile. More power to ya. But, Im not a guy to blow sunshine up anybody's butt, I will tell ya the truth both ways every time. If you wanna live in la la land go for it, if you want to hear the truth then pay attention to what the folks on this board have to tell ya. What I gave you was truth.

    BTW, if you're gonna make it in a truckers world. You better develop some thick skin, and quick. If you were wounded or threatened by my post bud, you ain't gonna survive.

    Kill your thread? Heck no, matter of fact. Im gonna bump you back to the top right now.:yes2557:

    :biggrin_25514::biggrin_25514::biggrin_25514:
    Dang!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:biggrin_25525: I got excited for just a sec. and now back to the norm:biggrin_2557:.
    :biggrin_2559: :biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559:
    I know some are gonna say, why are you getting excited, your not going to make those figures..... I was just referring to someone conquering the impossible. That's all.
    BTW Heavy Dude what kind of trailer, how many miles a week, and is it stressful to the point where you would prefer to operate with another type of trailer?

    Thanks, but I have two friends in the game, and they both are doing extremely well. They are walking me through the process step by step. One day at a time, and I've obtained a good amount of o/o guidance from my supervisors in the past, who I ran for.

    As soon as I figure it out, I'll post it, but only if you agree to do the same:biggrin_2559:
    Not sensitive, far from it actually, if that's what you were referring to by the skin comment, I just don't want to get into an e-fight with anyone, that's all. It takes away from my money or (research for right this sec.) I believe that you weren't pulling my leg with your figures. That's not true for everyone though. And thanks for giving me a boost to the top spot, I appreciate it..........:biggrin_25525:
