Maybe I'm getting senile but the "newbies" seem to be getting better of late. Watched a very young black guy (knit hat, dreadlocks, etc) slide a rig into a very tight space the other night and he did it just right. I walked over and asked "You're new at this ain't you?" He gave me a wary look and said "Yeah, why?" "Just wanted to tell you that was as nice as I've ever seen it done". I shook his hand and left him wearing an ear to ear smile.

I truly want to thank you...had a flat tire, driver side rear on the Yukon (ok, 4-wheeler), on I-20. Couldn't get any further over on the shoulder due to guard rail and was changing the tire very close to the line. I was trying to hurry as it was getting close to dark and didn't want to be out there by myself on the side of the road changing a tire in the dark.
I kept having to move away every time a vehicle came by - and of approximately 75-80 trucks that went by with nothing blocking them from changing lanes only 1 moved over.
So, that must have been you and I must thank you. That was the day I realized just how much trucking has changed since I was out there.

It's just one new guys opinion but it seems like the OP has an axe to grind due to being passed up by a company for a new driver. Yes, I'm a new driver, college educated at that but I respect and even look up to veteran drivers. I've also been driving/ hauling fuel 3 months now and I'm already training new drivers, most of which has been driving OTR for 5-10 yrs. I treat these drivers the same way I want to be treated, which is with respect. They learn from me and I learn from them. I've also been fortunate to work with guys with a good sense of humor. We work hard but we have fun.

I'm also respectful in how I drive always trying to think of the other driver. I paid attention as a 4wheeler and learned to flash my lights for big trucks when being passed by one etc. I understood stopping distance on a big truck long before I got my CDL thus not pulling out in front of one and stopping. I'm personally not in a hurry for my own funeral lol

Anyhow, I just don't think all new drivers are created equal.

I had me a tricky parking job to do at a tiny TS out back of beyond a few years back. Got'er slid in between a co. truck and a "million mile" Crete driver who looked older than dirt and probably had a hand in the invention of the wheel, or possibly fire. finished up my parking (three pullups and alot of swearing), looked over, and got "the nod" from the old guy. My head swelled up so big with pride I thought I was gonna lift the whole rig into the air! Made my whole week!
