Yo, you crusty old drivers better recognize! We new breed are the new way! We know that elogs and governed trucks are the best thing for this business. I dont have to worry about calculating my hours, gots a box to do my thinking for me. And who needs a road atlas, I gots my GPS. And who cares if i show up at a customer in flipflops, sweats and a too small tank top, this aint no fashion show. Remember dawg, Ray Lahood and the ATA are your best friend. Now I got to park in the fuel island and take a shower, peace out!

I just met a shining example of the "New breed" truck driver. I was at a little fuel stop, cleaning my Windows, when this big nice bright red ext hood Pete pulls up next to mine. Long story short, I get to talking to the driver about his truck. I asked him what was under the hood. He said "an engine" I laughed and asked if it was a Cat. He said, "I don't know how to tell the difference." I said well, if it's yellow, it's a Cat. He says: "I've never had the hood up on it, I don't know what's in it." I said, You've never checked the oil? He gets this tone in his voice, sort of arrogant like and says: "I'm not an f' ing mechanic. That's why my company has a shop. I don't check oil, that's a grease monkeys job. I'm a truck driver." I said: "no sir. you're not a truck driver, matter fact, you wouldn't make a pimple sized wart on a truck drivers butt. He says, "WTH does that mean?" I just said have a nice day kid and shut my door. I wish I could say I thought he was jerking my chain but I'm afraid he was serious.

Probably was serious and telling the truth. Like many carriers , his has likely swapped paying for experience to paying for an engine. Somehow in the bowels of bean counting this saves them money.

As a L/O , I can't see it though. I can't tell you how many lil things I catch under the hood or under the truck.....now by looking that would certainly fester into large repair bills later on left unchecked.

Better go ahead and grab some dinner while you're at it. Oh hey, would you mind bringing me a burger, I'm stuck waiting in line to get diesel, who knows how long I''ll be out here.

On a serious new breed note, I saw this driver waddle back to his truck in front of me in the fuel island with a bag full of fast food nearly 5 minutes AFTER I fueled, used the bathroom, filled my drink jug and got my reciept. His fat stomach pouring out from under a 2 size too small striped t-shirt. With his glasses and wool hat, he reminded me of Smee from Peter Pan. Got a chuckle out of that.

The new breed will be just fine.

Same as the last generation of drivers.

    No difference.....
