I have what I think is my best job driving. After sticking it out for one year at my first. I told employers I did that only to show I’m stable. It was awful. Then wouldn’t put up with the BS. Went through 6 jobs in 2 years. One was because there wasn’t enough work in winter for me to pay my bills. Otherwise liked it a lot. It was for a small O/O with three trucks. One was Oil Field that I knew and admitted in interview it was a job many leave.
So anyhow… I’ve found my best jobs through Craigslist. Smallest most unpretentious add was my second best. Same with this one. Small company with four drivers. Also the O/O does plenty of driving himself. Don’t know how he does it all. But he does. Now after 9 months. I ask him about arranging to attend a Streamer Fishing School. He says; Don’t worry about it. We can arrange the route around it. It’s something you like to do. …. Now that’s a good job.
Bear in mind. I have to drive regularly through Montana in winter. I sat out 37 below zero in Bozeman this year. Sat in Portland with ten below wind chills from 50mph gusts. It was ok with him. Other driver did it. He said after; Never again. …I know it’s dangerous. I did 32below in Chicago in 2019.
Anyways… this is more on the job I posted before. I hope to retire here in 5 years.
Warning to newbies....the sacrifices only get worse... :)
    .
This job does include a weeks vacation every 6 months. Right from the start. I don’t want to use that weeks vacation just to waste a bunch of time driving back and forth to Montana. I have better things to do at home.

HOORAY,,:hello1:, a success story. Craigslist, you say? I wonder if Chinatown is getting a bit nervous,,,:idea1:,,:hello2:, "gotta go, rickshaw waiting",,I think as the world deteriorates, and costs out of control, we may see a comeback in small companies again. There will be just too much freight to move. Sound familiar?( the 70s) Good luck, what do they have you driving?

    Chinatown Thanks this.

I recommend Craigslist and Facebook fairly often on here; depends on the circumstances the driver has.

That link to my other post said it. I’m doing a Dedicated Coast to Coast Hazmat Run.
    Different alcohols and acids.
Craigslist is where you’ll find small operators/companies. They cut out the BS. Or rather just tolerate what we have to deal with. They don’t embrace and pervert the BS.

    Those dahmed streamers....

Can watch everyone else throw, twitch, and pull in 22" browns.

I just throw, and twitch. Soon enough I'm back to a fly

Bear in mind…you can get snake bit on Craigslist. Pay close attention if you call them. If they sound like they don’t know what they’re doing. They probably don’t.

" I sat out 37 below zero in Bozeman this year. " I can relate bro! Imagine that kind of weather, rock springs, wy and sleeping at 2am the truck dies (this was way before the portable generators) It was a brand new truck I just picked up, only had like 750mi on it. it died cause it was low on coolant. went inside truck stop and luckily bought their last 2 jugs of coolant. poured one jug in, started truck, only to have it run for a couple min then die again. then I discover that the little brass fitting at the bottom of radiator was leaking. was only screwed in by about two threads! I wasn't a happy camper! Maybe I should've listened to momma and became a doctor...

Well....there's problems everywhere. Here he had a truck with almost 1/2 million miles for me. I would have at least hesitated taking the job if I knew. Especially with this situation. Now we're almost 600K. The truck is just one thing after another broke. Latest is something two places have worked on and didn't fix. I spent two weeks ago in Portland for 5 days. Waiting on a transmission control unit. I spent three weeks straight out on the road. One day I stopped after being up for 20 hours. Next morning I texted him that we had to do something much more reliable or I'm leaving. Already made contact with previous employer. He got back to me. Asked if I'd be happy with a Lease Truck. That way everything can be done when I'm at home. Any break down and they have nationwide coverage. If can't fix. Just get another truck. This would make me living in Rapid, and him in Akron, work out much better. I accepted the offer. Any truck he wants except a Freightliner.
I finally got home this morning. After three weeks out. Hopefully we can get back on schedule with my time off at home. I need it badly for exercise. I've taken a few steps backward in my rehabilitation. Not good.
BTW: Right now I have a year with this company. It's difficult to find anyplace reasonable. I've got it here.

Lease trucks aren't bad , use / drive'm now . We have Pac lease , had to use them twice for tow and repair . ( with them you call and they decide what they want to do . )
    Good luck
