HI
What refer company is the most reputable, has the best starting pay, cheapest benefits, best equipment and home time for student drivers? Im going to be based near the stlouis mo area.
I recently got a prehire from Crete. I dont know if this is applicable to the refer division.
I would imagine refer drivers probably are doing the best right now. Afterall, people still have to eat.
The best Refer outfit for a student driver?

I've heard some good things about Shaffer, but I don't know if they train. Shaffer is a division of Crete. (I think)
-
Yes Shaffer is the reefer side of Crete & JB Hunt is the flatbed side out of Omaha, Ne. (not the one in Ark.) Yes they hire recent grads. You have to have 1 to 2 yrs to transfer to the flatbed division.
-
You can easily go to TransAm with no experience as well as Stevens Transport, but dont expect to make money, basically you get experience from them with very little pay, at times you will go weeks without pay. Once you have some experience you can try CalArk, and some of the other major carriers.
-
That may be Hunt, NOT jb Hunt.........................
But then again, most noobies know more than me anyway......... -
Have you tried Prime? I have a friend who trained there on reefers and he's fairly content. Training pay was good, CPM as a solo driver is good, miles are okay (though he'd like more some weeks), hometime might not be on the exact day requested but is close and on a regular basis. The benefits, though, I don't think kick in 'til he completes one year as an A-seat.

Additionally, the railroads have been getting into hauling refrigerated train-cars and this is cutting into the available reefer pie.
And so just like dry-van, there are too many reefers competing for a shrinking base...this pushes already low rates and margins down.
Don't think just because you've got a reefer on your back...that you are immune to the effects of the economy.
I pulled a reefer for 1 year...will never go back to that.
More miles...but more BS like multi-stop, washouts, Sysco, lumpers, and pallet swaps.
If I never see another grocery whorehouse again...it'll be too soon! -
Your right jtrnr1951 it's hunt without the jb
jtrnr1951 Thanks this. -

as long as you DONT,DONT,DONT go to crengland cause they are a reefer company i would'nt tell my worst enemy to go to crengland. i also would question prime, they'll try to play you like crengland.. im speaking from experience.i was at england for 6 month's and it was a joke...so stay far away from crengland!!!!!!
