I think the OP may have been scared off.

LTL is always a good place to cut your teeth, I put in 18 years at it before I decided to move on. Now I'm with a very small fleet that's part of a very large company (private logistics fleet, but we also have common carrier authority, with the plan of creating backhaul lanes to reduce our empty miles

I dunno. LTL is a pretty good place to stick and stay. Cut my teeth and now chewing steak. Not sure what job I could take that would increase my ability to maximize my hometime and pay. And hometime and pay is what I'm all about. I don't need a "lifestyle" living in a truck. It's a job. Linehaul all the way baby...

Depends what you like to do, and I've done it all!

Concrete hauling pays well (at least here it does, but I know there's huge variations in pay around North America). Also, concrete plants need their "additives" delivered to them in hoppers. Also day work.

Gravel/Asphalt hauling, but this pays less.

If you live anywhere near filming areas, Teamsters may keep you busy. Long hours though, is why I won't do that job.

There are plenty of local jobs, but just don't expect to make HUGE dollars.
