Not sure what to say. Would never consider having alcohol in the truck period. It's not a personal vehicle regardless of what the party row lawyers tell you.

This is true . I have read on an FMCSA website that when a driver is logged as off duty and driving a CMV for personal conveyance the are exempt from regulations and can carry alcohol in the truck .
However , if you are a company driver the carrier probably prohibits carrying alcohol in the truck at any time .

to use as personal conveyance you must be bobtailing, (not pulling a trailer), but it still a commercial vehicle, some one said to put in the cooler behind the truck, believe they ment trailer, to that, you better have a bill od ladding for the cargo

Be careful with this kind of stuff. Even without keys in the ignition, cops have busted people for sleeping off their alcohol in their POV outside the bar. I think that's dirty pool, but it happens.

(and meanwhile, the real problems- actual drunks- continue to drink and drive and kill...and get slaps on the wrist when caught while the honest man catches hell for doing the right thing- NOT driving while drunk)

"Unladen" does not mean you have to bobtail around...just that you can't be loaded. You can pull a trailer while using personal conveyance....as long as the trailer is empty. You cannot be under a load, or under dispatch on your way toward your next load. You must be relieved from all job-related duties, using the truck for your own personal use...such as finding food, recreation, motels, etc. near where you are taking your break.

I cant remember the code number for it, but i believe there is a reg in the green book that says the only time alcoholic beverages are allowed in a commercial vehicle, is if its the trailer and its manifested as part of a shipment.
