Suspension shocks don't work. Truck rides like a total POS. The bouncing makes my back hurt after a few hours. I didn't see anything in the DOT Regs about the shocks.
Is this covered under inoperable equipment? Im willing to pull a shock at the scalehouse to prove my point.
Yes, I'm looking for a new job as this isn't the only issue with this truck.
Steering box has too much slop. I can't take my eyes off the road for half a second. No kore texting and driving for sure![]()

Shocks are not a DOT problem, Most companies do not replace shocks, In general shocks are the most neglected part of a trucks suspension....I know how you feel because I have run shocks too long a couple of times and when I finally did replace them I was amazed how bad the truck had been riding without me really noticing.
volvodriver01, VisionLogistics, SHC and 1 other person Thank this. -
This is really frustrating. I don't want to look for another job until next year.
$2000 would really make this 379 a really nice truck. Too bad that will never happen.
What humors me the most is that this company is penny wise, but dollar foolish.
They paid nearly $20k to rebuild the C15, but didnt replace the small things like the fuel return line which started leaking 3 days after the rebuild, or the coolant hoses which split 3 weeks later.
The engine constantly overheats and the AC won't get cold. The condenser find are all bent restricting airflow. Simple fix that will never get repaired. If my new engine kept overheating, you can bet I'd fix the problem.
I give up -
Just tell them the shocks are eating up your tires.

I believe the shocks are part of the suspension system, and as such, should be noted on the Drivers Daily Inspection Report.
-
There's nothing in the rules about the shocks.
-
If there's nothing in the rules about shocks then how come that driver on that Michigan State Police video on the regulations forum got placed OOS over a broken shock?
SHC Thanks this. -
I think it is real strange that they can place you out of service for that. Here's what FMCSA says about PTIs;

Shocks are not mentioned anywhere that I can find.Last edited: Nov 21, 2011

Have you called your State DOT and asked them? They will not bite.. Ask them to quote any references.
