Heeere I ammmm! For anyone stumbling onto this thread, welcome. I started writing about my travails getting started in the truck drivin' load leavin. business over on the welcome wagon page and since they tell me I now have a job at Swift Transport I took the advice of a nice lady, thank you Sammy C, and moved my sorry carcass over to the Swift site. I know, very "swift" of me but this is a rapid transit sort of career.
Tomorrow, I find out if they can find someone brave or foolish enough to share a truck with me for 240+ hours and still maintain a modicum of sanity.
If anyone should desire they can read the beginning of this trek over at howdy from a newbie.
It's late and I hope to get on the road tomorrow, so I'll sign off for now. Caution read this stuff at your own risk and with the realization that for the next six weeks or so I am probably going to be working harder than I have in a long time so my posts may be a bit sparse. Please feel free to talk among yourselves, Dahlings and remember, wherever you are, whatever you do don't let the Minahunees get you.

Skydivedavec, scottied67 and sammycat Thank this.

    Found ya DocF!!

    Congrats and GOOD LUCK!!

If you can, post what is going on, but from knowing some others on here that started at Swift (justsonny now he used to be called oldnewbiewannabe...) he was pretty busy during training and tired after his days work!

Stay safe and listen, learn and ask questions!
Remember there is never a dumb question and that is what the trainer and training is all about!

So true so true. It maybe that if your lips are moving your ears are closed but you gotta ask and then follow up if you don't get it.
To continue, "They" sent most of us home. 2 guys went with trainers or as Swift calls them Mentors and the other four of us hit the road to wait for "The Call". I was really hoping that I could get on at Laredo terminal as I would be sure of loads going that way all the time so when I need to get home I can. Also, I could leave my car in a secure area which is important as my wife's MS makes it really not a good idea for her to drive.
Swift used to have a drop yard in San Antone but I'm told they closed it. Makes me wonder as they own Central and I don't think they are going anywhere. Conflicting information. I always wait with an open mind at that.
I guess it all depends on what my mentor says, really. I think he/she is grabbing some home time in or around San Antonio which is why they sent me home.
Makes sense from their end as if I stayed in Laredo they would have to pay me for doing basically nothing.
Anyway my wife (Karen) and hound (Dan) were surprised to see me. She and I would both be happier if I was on the road as our finances are pretty grim but Dan doesn't care about any of that! When he saw me, he went ballistic!.He's a Pomeranian I got for my wife but he really is papa's boy. He does what I call the whirligig act when I come home or sometimes just on general principals and the way he goes 'round and 'round I don't know how he doesn't fall over with the dizzy twitches.
It's good I guess as I can finish up all the final touches I thought about down in Laredo. Small stuff but it'll make life easier for Karen.
I'll post again to let y'all know what's going on say Hi to justsonny for me and let him know the welcome mat is out. I enjoyed his postings on ORG's site. Speaking of which, any word?

Haven't heard much from justsonnny lately...He occasionally pops in but not like he did before he got his CDL and then went to Swift. He's now at some smaller company up in the North East like Maine I think, as he got engaged and wanted to be closer to her. No word on ORG.....I don't think we will ever hear from him again since he has been long gone and several other folks here (Chalb for one) called and left messages several times but never heard back

Hopefully you hear soon from Swift and get your training started!
Glad you got to suprise your wife and dog though! Little unexpected treat!

Ah the lures of love, you gals shore seem to keep us guys in line. Dog was ecstatic just made wife nervous; she so wants me to succeed and everything. She really is the best person I know. This has been hard on her as she is the type that likes to have everything in a neat orderly schedualed fashion. Being an ex-nurse, and an impatient person "knowing" exactly when, where, what and how is important to her. I wish I could wave my my magic juju wand and make everything clear but that's not the way it works (so I imagine) in the fast paced world of trucking bureaucracy.lol
Another days useless penny is spent, I'm calling in tomorrow if I don't hear from a mentor. I really need to on the road and get paid.

Another days useless penny is spent. Called the driver manager 4 times today. I guess she was out 'cause no reply, I really need to get moving.
Going to try e-mail and check the Swift site.
I feel so unloved. The pleasures of working for a large corp. I guess.

I'm thinking of Swift. Can't afford the local school deal... going broke and need to get busy... going to call a Swift recruiter later today.

Good choice! They are a big company but so far everyone I've met is very nice. May I suggest you contact Riley Branch at 1-972-224-9646. I know just how you feel, I'm on the broke bus too but now that I've got a job with Swift I expect that to change.
