A driver shared a story of how he was unable to pass a few illegally parked cars on New York City streets. A Police Officer came to the scene and told the driver to procede on his way and to let his trailer hit the illegally parked cars. After some argument, the driver did as he was told and damaged the parked cars as the Officer wrote parking tickets for the damaged cars.
Normally, I would not belive such a story, but it's the second or third time I've head it.
Could these stories be true? What would you, as a driver, do in a situation like this?
The Cop made me do it.

Id tell the cop im not tearing up my equipment, and that id wait for the wrecker to come tow them because with my truck in the way traffic was now going to be obstructed because I do not have room to safely pass due to the illegally parked vehicles.
I do not have a problem with standing up to a peace officer, when I do it however I do so in a respectful polite manner, that tends to get you a lot further with them. -
Hip boots..................Check !!!!
platinum Thanks this. -
This situation happened to several friends of mine....they did as they were told by the cop because if they didnt the cop was going to ticket them and impound the truck for creating a public nuisense.........right or wrong they did it one of the guys was a werner driver too. He got the officers badge number and everything so that if he had any damage to his trailer he could have the cop back him up

.
But the stories are very true, in NYC.Injun and rocknroll nik Thank this. -
But that was #### funny Les -
Sounds far fetched, but big cities have different rules.
Absolute 100% fact (as in, this has happened, not that it is routine):
Legally parked cars that were side swiped by a fire engine responding to a call were dragged away from the curb after the fact by city employees far enough that they could be cited, thereby getting the FD off the hook.
Sad but true.
If the cop referred to in the original post worked and lived in a city with such "jungle rules," telling a driver to bust 'em up would probably feel like business as usual.rocknroll nik Thanks this. -
I have had a cop tell me if I did not comply he was going to arrest me and impound my truck.
My response has always been, that will be a very expensive tow for your department.
Just make #### sure if you are going to be that ####y that you are in the right. -
