The standard daily per diem deduction, about $58/day now for every day out and away from home.

Sorry, I thought Bill was referring to the phony per diem that carriers charge emplyees to administer.

Mgfg, while per diem is not paid to ICs, they still get to claim the deduction on taxes.

I will try and answer two questions, make that three, as far as Mac 30, when it is working right in you are in the right areas, I actually got more miles using it than my DM's, but that was b4 this plus1 bs.

As far as accountant, I have one, and she is very experienced with trucking, since her husband is an O/O and owns a small fleet, and she charges me only $200 per year. I do not file quarterly. Instead, I just take an additional .15/mi out of my check at the end of the week and send it to a savings acct, per my accountant. There was just something about ATBS that I never liked.

Third, if you decide to lease, do not listen to those around the bs tables at the terminals that say that the only way to make it is to become a mentor. You just need to make sure that you present DM knows how to run you, and do not let them tell you that the only way that you can make it is to either go team or Mentor. I had 2 tell me that, and they are no longer my DM.

There, that is 3, and I am done, and good luck with your decision.

Heh...we answered at the same time. L/Os and O/Os are not employees.

Yeah, I am aware of that and there's no phony admin charge unlike what countless drivers pay.

After researching leases throughout the industry and having been in a lease with a different company, I have found Swift's to be one of the most straight-forward available. They are not afraid to tell you what is being deducted, so settlements are written in plain English. There are no codes to figure out.

Thanks for the info all. Makes sence a lot more now. Yea, I never hang out around them bs tables at terminals at all. Heck I try not to be at a terminal at all unless im on a load and its simpler to park there than a truck stop..

Just talked to my friend that picked up a lease a month ago and he's running some nice miles, or at least what he says.
Sorry for jumping on this thread, but it helped answer a few Q's..
