The correct way to merge in a construction zone?

    The people that move over 2 miles too soon and stop one lane up are convinced the people following the signs are wrong.

    You should have to fight my battle.. everybody ..I mean EVERYBOBY wants to get in front of me they see a spec of cow sh#t or piss dripping down the side of my wagon or see a pair of eyeballs peering at them .. they do anything and everything to get in front of me before we have to merge.. more than once I've seen a tard run over a barrel to make sure they don't have to follow me through a work zone
    That also applies when I'am on the 2 lanes coming up to a work zone ... the motorcycles are the worst

    Have you seen those stupid Super truckers that block both lanes a mile away to stop others who would have merged at the zipper.
    I can't stand them

    Merge at the merge point, or merge two miles early. It's still a zipper. The problem is people cutting in line. Get over means "get over". It doesn't mean "yay, here's my chance to pass twenty people and then get over."

    Not even close. Forty years ago that’s what you would have seen happening when a bunch of truck drivers set to getting each other around a lane closure. Back then even Punkin and JB had that #### figured out.

    I tend to think when they put out multiple signs saying to use both lanes up to the merge point it’s because they’d like you to use both lanes up to the merge point because they’re trying to alleviate having a huge backup in one lane while the other lane is wide open.

    I don't see the difference between causing a backup at the merge point, or causing a backup a mile earlier. A backup is a backup. Driving all the way to the merge point doesn't alleviate it, because people still have to merge. The earlier people merge, the more smoothly they can merge.

    In Europe, the merge techic is taught when getting your drivers license and is adhered to. I lived there 6 & 1/2 years and I've seen everyone merge together at 60+ mph with hardly any slow down. How to merge here in the U.S. isn't even taught, so it ends up being what one's opinion is, and different folks have quite different opinions on how to do it.
    In general, I think it better to wait until the merge point and not to merge early. Reason has to do with overall effects on traffic congestion. If you have 2 miles worth of cars trying to merge, you back up the highway for 2 miles if everyone merges early and that effects traffic long before the merge point. If everyone waits to the merge point, that 2 miles of traffic ends up using only 1 mile of highway and is less likely to cause congestion problems upstream of the merge point.
