How many exits are getting blocked?
Last week I was behind a super trucker playing traffic cop and holding back traffic in the right hand lane. We were 5 miles from the merge point and one mile from my exit.
The other way to look at it is like pouring water through a funnel. Pouring into one funnel has a rate of 10 gallons an hour. If you put a second funnel above the first, flow rate will decrease.
The correct way to merge in a construction zone?

Isn't the "but nobody will let me in" kind of self fulfilling? Like, if you want people to follow the rules, maybe YOU ought to follow the rules too?
flood and Another Canadian driver Thank this. -
Some of the same people who complain about the behavior of steering wheel holders and rate-undercurtters will turn around and block a lane for two miles before a merge, when the rules specifically tell us to use that whole lane.
And then complain that four wheelers give us no respect.D.Tibbitt, Long FLD, brian991219 and 3 others Thank this. -

Another Canadian driver and kranky1 Thank this. -
Either way, if you want to wait until you get to the merge point, then you do you. I'm getting over at the first warning sign. Cutting in line isn't up there on my list of priorities. -

With the density of traffic as high as it is, you cannot remove 50% of the real estate and expect things to continue flowing.
Add the usual confusion, human nature (me first), and the distracted (how many times do we read about someone plowing full speed into the backup?) and the situation is hopeless.
There is no Public Service Announcement campaign that will have any effect at all. -
Ya can't fix stupid.
I'm old school and we just got over when we knew which lane to be in. Of course we had radios.
Didn't seem that difficult of a concept to grasp.
But now no one wants to be behind a truck and they die proving it..oh well Darwin's theory plays out day after day. -

People who use the ending lane as a passing lane are people who I do not let in.tscottme, Nightcrawler99, IH Truck Guy and 4 others Thank this.
