One problem for rails in Idaho, we have rails that go east and west, but now there are none to go north and south, union pacific ripped those rails out and gave the land back to the land owners. oregon has no rails along us 26 anymore either to go from vale oregon to burns or bend those rails are gone as well. so if there are other states that took rails out then there will always have to be trucks to deliver goods, besides there are no rails to wal mart dc's or any other dc's. plus there are no rails to wal-mart stores or home depot, lowes or targets. Trucks will always be around. You cant build rails to every store in every town, not feaseable.

And how many times has the government bailed out the Rail Roads over the years? It is not like they are invincible. And rails do not go everywhere and even if they did start a program to put rails in, they would likely use illegal labor to do it. So in the long run, how much good would these "Jobs Jobs Jobs" do Americans anyway?
There is a reason why we hear stories of shutting down the boarder and yet it never gets done. Anytime industry can secure a cheap source of labor they will. Ask John D. Rockefeller, the man the burned down a coal camp in Colorado killing the wives and children of a group of miners. Rockefeller is quoted as saying "Competition is a sin."
Greed and Ambition....two incentives that can quickly get out of control if left unchecked.Beechvtail Thanks this. -
It currently ends at Napier Rd in Benton Harbor, this junction is complete and includes southbound offramps and northbound onramps (it ends north of this road). It's paved a mile north of napier, up to where the next bridge has to be built. According to google earth, a corridor is cleared up to the I-94/BL-94 junction, but this is outdated data and there are actually crops in the way as far as i can tell in real life. No construction has happened in years because they were concerned about not destroying butterfly habitats. These concerns have been cleared up, and now it's just money problems apparently.
ITS EXPECTED TO COST 60 MILLION DOLLARS TO FINISH. Seriously, one mile of interstate highway style freeway and a couple of ramps. WTF? Chances are, its probably going to stay the way it is right now. It's really not that bad. You just take eastbound i94 to exit 30 napier ave, make a left, drive a mile with no traffic lights or stop signs unil you get to the two sets of lights at Us30, and make a right turn and jump on!
Read all about it here. http://www.michiganhighways.org/indepth/US-31Freeway_Berrien.html -
Rail is limited by routes and is near capacity already and will not replace trucking. The UK and Europe has a much better rail network with nearly all towns having a rail link and freight still moves via roads. Nice try with the fear rumors, this is an old trucking myth, but no dice, it will never happen.
Anyone heard of a new Trans America rail link from East to West being built? No, didn't think so.
