Alright UPSF city driver, how's it going so far? Have you gone out on a route yet? And the big question - you get that nice bump in pay yet?

Oh man.. We're pretty much told here how it's gonna be and we're gonna like it whether we really like it or not.. You have some other options there - did you talk to your people in charge?

On a lighter note, you'll like it once you get up and running. Quick question about bidding there.. Can you bounce back and forth between city and road yearly with seniority, or are they classified as two different things?

yea i talked to everybody including the worthless union, nothing can be done but i cant complain to much, i really aint even been worried about it much

theres a city board and a linehaul board, so if i did that i would keep going to the bottom of the board

but city drivers are offered extra linehaul work on the weekends, by seniority

I hear ya.. Believe me, it's not worthless - I prefer to work without one but it has its advantages and you'll see them over time.

Once you get going on a P&D route, keep us posted. I ran one for over 3 years and loved it, but wanted to make the line-haul money. The best part is you'll get to know your customers and other LTL drivers in the area - it was the best three years of driving I've had.

well it will be about 4-5 years before i get my own route.....im what they call an "ad hoc" driver...i go wherever they need me on any given day

i think someday i might switch to linehaul cuz i hear the money is even better....the only downside to it is the schedule...they basically work 3rd shift for the most part

    Congratulations on passing your test.

There is a bonus to driving third shift. Not as many idiots on the road, outside of the cities. In the cities, that late at night, the majority of sober drivers are the professional drivers.

There's a lot more to it than that when considering P&D versus night line-haul at an LTL company. In the end, it comes down to if there a number worth essentially giving up your social life. Although I'm home daily, my clock is so screwed up I end up missing out on half the things I wanted to do. Every Saturday I have to figure out whether to take a quick nap or just stay up - all too many times that quick nap has turned into me waking up at 10 PM having missed everything. I keep telling myself I'm going back to P&D in January but so far I'm 0/2.. At least I'm hitting the number in my head..lol.. We'll try harder next January..

That's the one thing you guys have system wide that I really like,....Over here the only terminals with a one line board are in the north east.

It would be nice to build some seniority and bounce around on the board every year or so to get a change of scenery,..
