    You're talking about that company that's currently occupying Dick Simon's old terminal building in Salt Lake City, right? I see them running mostly Volvos any more.

    The only sizable company I can recall from up there that may still be running FL Classics and W-900s would be "The James Gang" if they're even still around any more. Don't recall seeing their trucks on the road in a long time.

    Well they are talking about Central refer because they where the only company I know of that had a skunk on the trucks at one time before they changed over.

    Forgot about them upgrading with Volvos.

    "They already are. The locals in Portland and Stockton have been told to go back to OTR or they're fired. I don't know how many are in Stockton, but there's only one local in Portland, and he's a nice guy. They've fired at least 30 office staff, and I wouldn't be surprised if there's more cutbacks coming.

    ($^!&#! is having trouble. Look back over the last year as how many things they're doing to save money, and what's losing them money, and it's becoming apparent they're not doing well. One of my friends is an old Simon driver, and they were saying what ($^#^#!'s going through now is much like what Simon went through before they went under. I'm concerned for my job security."

    That would be James Clark Trucking, out of SLC. And yes they still run the W900, haven't seen many of them in Classic's.

    That's not what they were saying.... read it again.... The jist of the statement means that, given enough exposure to something, you can get enough insight to know about the job and the in's and out's of the profession. Another thing you might have overlooked is that LilBit and LuvTheRoad have been behind the wheel.
    ??? Where did that come from? Not everyone out there was born with a steering wheel and a gearshift in their hand (and if they did, I pity their birth-mother). There is a lot to know about the industry. But you must realize that there are people out there who have been in it a long time who have been exposed to MOST of the same stuff a driver deals with. Dispatchers, Terminal Managers, and the list goes on. When a driver has a problem, who do they call? Hence exposure to MOST of the stuff. Being a driver for one year or 30 years does not necessarily make you more knowledgeable about the industry than the people that support the driver. Actually, I would venture to say that as a driver, I would call my dispatcher or TM, tell them the problem, and they fix it. But I am not necessarily going to be exposed to what hoops had to be jumped through to fix my problem. So at that point, I would have to say THEY knew more about it than ME, agree?
    This is getting more and more silly. I refer you to the paragraph above this quote. Watching it on tv and dealing with it, IN REAL LIFE, is a huge difference. Unless you spent last night in a Holiday Inn Express.... hehhehehe
    Uhhhh, I think you missed the part about trucking being a part of their day to day life. Great thing about living in America, huh? I may not necessarily agree with you, but I will defend to my death your right to your opinion.

    Hmm I believe I said life experience in the industry was not equal. Not that it did not count. They don't train drivers with office staff , they train them with drivers who have recent experience driving a CMV as far as I know.

    Here is what I opined on.
    As far as some driving in the distant past goes, it's better then none and would make it more equal. But even the carriers will make you retrain if you are out of the seat long enough. Even they don't seem to think a totality of experience in the industry makes you qualified to turn the key on their CMV.

    So no hanging around truck drivers and the trucking industry does not make your views on being a trucker equal to that of someone doing the JOB as a truck driver . If it did ,I would not of had trainees and dispatchers who after a week where begging to go home and do something else for a career.

    So it is written so shall it be done

    Blue... You never did answer this. This isn't about who does what, who did what or who is the smartest with the most experience. This goes way back to something you werent involved in if you haven't read what started this. No one is trying to be a pretend truckdriver and no one on here is trying to insult anyone's intelligence. All of this started with other comments about experience in the industry, and, not alluding to only driving.
    I for one am not an "expert" nor have I ever implied that I am one.
    Maybe you think you are, I don't know. If you are, great, we can all learn from you.
    I post what I believe to be true. I also read what others post and try not to insult them or belittle them as some others on here do. We're all in the industry doin' what we think is best for it and ourselves.
