Sorry I am to busy answering answers I gave to previous posts. :biggrin_255:

I gave a opinion on the statement as presented. Nothing more , nothing less.

That's all these are is opinions. So Peace, love, food stamps, cocoa beans and the mortal words of Rodney King are all that is left to say :biggrin_25525:

Yep, and to toss this in too. I suspect that no matter what industry or job one considers, "experience" will be defined as many different ways as there are employees. For instance, I'm confident we all know people who consider themselves experienced because they've been "doing their job" for 25 years, when actually, they've accomplished nothing more than stringing together 25 one year experiences. Not the accumulation of knowledge or skills the 25 years suggests. Time served isn't always an accurate measure or representation of experience.

What I enjoy about this site is the healthy exchange of ideas, rants, raves, help, advice, humor, support, etc., from 4 wheelers to 40+ year drivers. I've learned things from people across that entire range of members. Funny, take the vehicle away, and it closely approximates the non-trucking world. Eery huh :biggrin_25525:

    well said!

This is an excellent thread about CRETE...

I dont think it was ever intended to be a thread about who is the best or who is the expert about anything like it's becoming.
As I've stated I am not an expert, nor have I ever implied that I am one. I'm in here, like everyone else, to ask questions, to learn and give an opinion. I don't question anyones "experience" about who does what or how long they're done it. It doesn't matter. So, let's get back to the item at hand... CRETE... That's what we are here for isn't? :biggrin_25525:

    <sigh>

Sorry, but I just have to say this... and then I will get back on point. I don't want someone thinking the wrong thing about what I said....

    Big Blue.....

You are missing the point my friend.... When it comes to a discussion about the trucking industry, spending MANY years IN the trucking industry DOES INDEED count. Truck drivers are very well versed when it comes to the driving aspect.... no argument there. But when it comes to the inner workings of the industry, ie "office olympics", and the "behind the scenes" workings of a company, I am sorry, but a terminal manager, dispatcher, and so forth have a lot more qualified position and opinion than you are giving them credit for. My $.02.

    Ok, now I am done.....

to make it possible for the customer's product to get from point A to point B the driver, CSM, manager, dispatchers, etc. are all needed to provide that service. When things go wrong, it takes a driver who goes beyond the call of duty or an office person working with the driver and/or the customer to make it happen. Satisfied customers = profitable company = jobs for everyone.

And what makes the above comment so especially tragic, is that seven children had to die for that to happen.

According to the accident report prepared by the National Transportation Safety Board on the January 25, 2006 fatal accident in Lake Butler, Florida --

"A postcrash compliance review conducted by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) on March 15, 2006, resulted in a proposed conditional rating, but because of a consent agreement, the rating remained "satisfactory." In response to the compliance review, Crete developed a safety management plan, signed a consent agreement with the FMCSA to settle all assessed fines, and agreed to three progress reviews over the following 18 months. The most recent compliance review, and the last of the three required progress reviews, was conducted on May 25, 2007, and Crete received a satisfactory rating. The last time Crete had been subjected to an FMCSA compliance review was 10 years prior to the accident, on December 7, 1995."

The probable cause of the accident? "The National Transportation Safety Board determines that the probable cause of this accident was the failure of the truck driver to maintain alertness due to fatigue from obtaining inadequate rest. Contributing to the accident was the failure of Crete Carrier Corporation to exercise proper oversight of the driver's hours of service."

If a person were to compare safety records, they would have to agree with Knighton. Compare the amount of trucks a company has, miles, etc. it will come out that Crete is one of the most safety concious carriers on the road today. But, when we are comparing safety and accidents, lets please compare apples to apples, not apples to oranges.
Yes, that accident was a horrible thing. All of us can only hope that nothing that tragic ever happens again.
I find it truely amazing that when a person can't find something bad to say about Crete, they dredge up that accident. How about the years that Crete has been in business, that they are profitable? Longivity of their drivers and the average ages? Good equipment? Long time customers? The list is endless.
